What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Addison Group?
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Controller for one of our clients. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, managing a small team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in both public accounting and industry, excellent leadership skills, and deep knowledge of GAAP and lease accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Lead technical accounting areas, including lease accounting under ASC 842
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy and completeness
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries
- Collaborate with FP&A and operational teams to support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and internal controls
- Assist the Controller with special projects and serve as a key point of contact for senior leadership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA certification required
- Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including both public accounting and private industry
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and technical accounting, including lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Great Plains preferred but not required) and Microsoft Excel
