Civil Estimator (Mid-Level)

Location : San Antonio, TX

Salary : $90,000 - $130,000

Summary :

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating civil construction projects, including sitework, concrete, wet utilities, and underground utilities. This position involves preparing accurate bids for projects ranging from $500,000 to $10M, utilizing estimating software, and fostering strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and engineers. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Civil Estimator may also support project management tasks as needed to ensure successful project execution.

Duties :

Review invitations to bid, project estimates, and quantity take-offs in a timely manner; make recommendations as needed.
Analyze historical and existing cost data to determine accurate pricing and profitability for civil construction projects.
Prepare and issue bid solicitations to subcontractors and vendors, ensuring competitive and accurate pricing.
Review project scopes, specifications, and conditions; submit RFIs and clarification requests as necessary.
Use Bid2Win for job costing and bid submission, maintaining accuracy throughout the estimating process.
Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
Prepare and present project schedules, considering company resources and subcontractor timelines.
Organize and maintain comprehensive project documentation for smooth transfer to field operations and administration.
Collaborate with project managers to minimize change orders and back charges.
Provide project support as needed, including assisting with coordination and ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Attend meetings and contribute to the overall success of the estimating team and company.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Possess a valid Texas driver’s license and meet the company’s auto insurability requirements.

At least 2 years, preferably 8 years of experience in estimating civil construction projects, including concrete, sitework, and wet utilities.

Experience supporting project management tasks or familiarity with project management concepts.

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Proficiency in Bid2Win AND Microsoft Office Suite required. Familiarity with additional tools like AutoCAD and AgTek desired.

Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and utility purveyor standards.

Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Well-organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with occasional heavier loads. Perform physical activities such as balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Engage in repetitive motion and grasping. Requires visual acuity, hearing, and mental acuity for essential functions.

Adaptability to both office and construction site settings. Exposure to various weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain, dust, cold). Occasional travel to local site locations, client offices, and meetings. Noise levels typically consistent with office environment, with occasional elevated levels on job sites. Drive to local sites while adhering to safety precautions.
