Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with a strong background in inventory accounting to join our finance team. This position will be responsible for managing key accounting functions, including inventory reconciliations, sales tax compliance, and month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate will have solid technical expertise in cost accounting, a thorough understanding of internal controls, and the ability to implement process improvements. Additionally, this role requires providing guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Sales Tax Management:
- Upload and maintain sales tax exemption certificates in the portal.
- Reconcile monthly sales tax returns and ensure accurate coding of sales tax returns and ACH payments.
- Process sales tax credits and rebills to ensure timely resolution.
Invoice and Journal Entry Processing:
- Create and submit manual invoices and credits as required.
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end close, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
Inventory and Balance Sheet Reconciliation:
- Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations, ensuring that inventory is correctly valued and aligned with financial records.
- Reconcile other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements.
Vendor Management and Accounts Payable Support:
- Maintain and update vendor information for Accounts Payable, ensuring that all records are accurate and up to date.
- Rebates and Fixed Assets:
- Calculate and report monthly customer rebates, ensuring accurate calculations and timely reporting.
- Maintain and report on fixed assets and other financial metrics, providing detailed reports as needed.
Commissions and Unclaimed Property:
- Review and reconcile open commissions to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Handle unclaimed property submissions in accordance with applicable regulations.
Accounting Research and Process Improvement:
- Perform accounting research and determine the correct application of accounting policies and principles.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and collaborate with the team to implement changes.
Audit Support:
- Support interim and annual financial statement audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
Accounting Policies and Procedures:
- Create and maintain accounting policies as needed to ensure compliance with changing regulations and best practices.
Team Development:
- Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
Ad Hoc Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities as requested by the Supervisor or Manager.
Position Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in accounting or a similar analytical role.
- Strong background in inventory and cost accounting is essential.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of internal controls and accrual accounting.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel (Advanced skills required).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Customer service-oriented with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
Additional Skills:
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Experience with accounting software (ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar is preferred).
- Ability to suggest and implement process improvements to streamline accounting processes and increase efficiency.
