Senior Accountant Job Description
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the finance team in reporting and analysis. This role involves financial reconciliations, preparing reports, mentoring junior staff, and assisting with audits.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain and review general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring consistency and transparency.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions and balance sheets.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements for multiple entities.
Audit & Compliance
- Support financial and tax audits by preparing necessary documentation.
- Monitor and document internal controls to maintain compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Review and approve journal entries, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Research and explain budget variances, identifying discrepancies and providing solutions.
- Ensure supporting documentation is properly maintained for financial records.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and review the work of junior accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate accounting initiatives across departments to enhance financial processes.
- Provide ad-hoc financial reports and participate in special projects as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial analysis principles.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
