Director Planning- Factory Outlet
Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization
Create, drive and manage sales, margin and profitability strategy and targets for Factory Outlet in North America Retail. Responsible for Factory Outlet seasonal strategy, managing store inventory levels, open to ship, pre-season planning, monthly forecasting, reporting and hind sighting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Annual Seasonal Strategy Creation
    • Establish annual budget framework, planning process and strategy for Factory Outlet. Lead strategy for monthly forecasting with planners. Communicate these plans to Finance partners and Buying team.
    • Develop and drive long term strategies that lay out the plans for future growth and profit improvements.
    • Partner with Factory Outlet Buying Team, BUs and Range Architecture to create space planning/option count plans based on historical analysis and Retail strategy.
    • Manage team’s execution of analysis and recommendations of unit count by store for Factory Outlet.
  • Financial/Inventory Management
    • Oversee seasonal open-to-buy reconciliation to ensure financial KPIs tie out to financial strategy for Factory Outlet.
    • Provide guidance and recommendations to management regarding complex issues related to the financial impact of business KPI’s.
    • Own the receipt/inventory and markdown checkbook. Partner with Factory Outlet Buying and Finance on decisions that would affect these top line roll ups.
    • Oversee planning organization in driving the open-to-buy process with monthly meetings with the Buying teams for Factory Outlet.
  • Reporting and Analytics
    • Lead Factory Outlet Planning team to set weekly/daily/seasonal distribution and replenishment strategy for all concepts by analyzing sales trends, profit, turn, WOS, article counts and goals.
    • Create Retail reporting framework and oversee delivery of accurate and timely management reporting products (historical results, forecasts, budgets) on an ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Cross Functional Partnerships
    • Partner with Operations, Finance, SCM and Buying teams to create alignment to support retail profit strategies and network inventory KPIs.
    • Establish a best practice for Factory Outlet product flow for each season.
  • Team Development
    • Ensure that everyone on the assigned planning team is receiving the training and development that they need to be successful.
    • Create mentoring opportunities for team members.
    • Develop career mapping for assigned planning team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong and flexible personality, to build relationships.
  • Requires strong retail math and financial acumen.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and make business decisions from statistical information.
  • Ability to forecast consumer traffic trends and category opportunities 9-24 months in the future.
  • Ability to create strategic financial plans to drive topline revenue and profitable growth.
  • Requires complex decision making based on statistics, trends and opinions.
  • Requires strong presentation skills with focus being on oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires proficiency on MS Office Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Requires making complex decisions that will have a major effect on success of business.
  • Requires mental stamina to remain positive and approachable during times of stress.
  • Requires ability to be able to interact comfortably with a diverse range on individuals and personalities.
  • Requires ability to consensus build and work through corporate organizational structure.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to travel by air domestically and internationally as need, in some cases with limited or no notice.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university preferred emphasis on business/finance
  • A minimum of 10 years financial/business analysis, modeling and forecasting experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a retail environment
  • A minimum of 5 years managing a team
