Job Description
THIS IS A NON-CAREER APPOINTMENT THAT IS LIMITED TO 129 HOURS PER MONTH
The Office of Advocacy Services’ Offer in Compromise Section is responsible for reviewing Offer in Compromise (OIC) submissions that may be complex, sensitive and high-profile. An OIC is a request by a taxpayer for Treasury to compromise an assessed tax liability for less than the full amount. An OIC may be a resource of last resort for taxpayers and tax professional who have exhausted Treasury’s normal channels of resolution. This is a year-round position, working 129 hours each month. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist Offer in Compromise Section staff with the research, analysis, and resolution of OIC specific accounts utilizing the applicable state/federal laws, department polices, and bureau processes. This position will also perform duties typical of an office environment.

Foreign Degrees: Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Go to evaluators for a list of accepted organizations that evaluate foreign credentials. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.
Civil Service Regulation 3.02 authorizes student assistant to work up to 29 hours a week with a maximum of 129 hours in a calendar month. The work schedule for each semester will be determined and agreed upon by the supervisor and the student.
Remote Work: This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Interviews will likely occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
