Position Summary:
The Material Planning Manager is responsible for analyzing, planning and managing the flow of materials to ensure they are provided according to schedule. The Material Planning Manager develops and implements strategies to keep inventory at a minimum without compromising customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees teams of salaried and indirect hourly employees who perform and lead planning and logistics functions. Logistics team includes receiving, MRO crib, stockroom, final part preservation and shipping.
- Leads Sales and Operations Planning Process with cross-functional involvement to create production plans for each value stream which optimizes customer deliveries, inventory, and operational stability.
- Provides aftermarket locations in Arizona, Ohio and Malaysia with components for repair and overhaul by creating their Master Production Schedules and planning the required components through shipment.
- Executes and facilitates the Sales and Operations Plan through planning tools including Plan for Every Part (PFEP), Material Requirements Execution (MRE), Kanban, Production schedules and jobs, following up through shipment. Tracks late orders for internal and external customers to continuously improve On Time Delivery.
- Monitors and tracks effectiveness, contributing input for planned shipments, budgets, staffing and inventory plans.
- Identifies potential part shortages and works with Supply Chain to prevent production interruptions.
- Prepares right-sized inventory plans, makes inventory projections and tracks Days’ Sales Inventory (DSI), and accuracy through cycle counting and an annual physical inventory, as well as excess & obsolete reviews. Conducts problem-solving to create improvement plans.
- Partners with supply chain to plan material, identify improvements in material flow, and cost out opportunities.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts for improvements in part flow, material availability, and inventory cost management.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in inventory and production control.
- 4-year college degree in business, engineering, or related field required. APICS certification preferred.
- Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities.
- Must have advanced Microsoft skills and be able to understand ERP systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
- Must be an innovator and embrace lean enterprises principles and practices.
