What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Chemist position at Advanced Chemical Transport LLC?
Job Summary
This professional technical skilled position is responsible for sorting and transporting hazardous, non-hazardous waste, and biowaste while observing all safety protocols (proACTive). Interface with professional individuals in the Biotechnology and Semiconductor related industry. Previous field chemist experience is required.
Accountabilities
- Understand Federal/State EPA requirements for hazardous waste disposal
- Ship waste according to DOT requirements
- Understand and manage chemicals base on physical and chemical properties for proper disposal
- Responsible for proper packaging of hazardous waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
- Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal
- Inventory chemicals for proper disposal or for HMBP
- Introductory knowledge of hazard materials management / assessment and cylinder handling
- Assist in characterizing materials for clients.
- Develop good client relations by effectively communicating with customers
- Perform the following types of services:
- Small 2 person, 1 – 2-day chemical moves
- Small 1 – 2-day lab packs
- Laboratory decons
- Onsite hazardous waste management services
- Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance in regard to 40CFR
- Oversee the Inspections of storage areas for leaks or spills
- Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations
- Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency, maintain compliance, and safety
- Sampling new waste streams or any wastes needing analytical testing
- Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork; provide waste tracking reports as needed
- Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
- Lead technicians or support project managers in hazardous waste removal or building closures
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Knowledge of the hazardous waste industry with EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations a plus
- Detailed oriented and able to multi-task
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
- Proficient with computers
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
- Good presentation, documentation, and reporting skills
- Ability to pass the Lab pack class (Internal Training Course)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, physical, and drug-screen
- Availability to work weekends and extended hours as needed
Education/Experience
- Bachler Degree in Science or 4 years’ experience in the hazardous waste industry
- Have or willing to obtain a Class B/C License with hazmat endorsement (clean driving record in the last 3 years)
- Successfully completed HAZWOPER 40 hour (must have copies if certified)
- Previous field chemist experience required
