What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at Advanced Dermatology of the Midlands?
Advanced Dermatology is seeking a Billing Specialist to assist our billing team by processing insurance claims and working denials, checking eligibility and benefits, and reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Answering phone calls from patients regarding payments and payment plans
- Patient refunds
- Collections
- Tricare/VA referrals
- Obtaining/updating pertinent information, i.e., name of patient, date of birth, diagnosis, insurance information in Athena Health
- Coordinating with the billing team to resolve any authorization related claims issues
- Ensuring a timely and accurate authorization process
- Processing EFT’s
- Submitting claims to insurance companies
- Calling insurances and checking websites for pre-certifications, pre-authorizations, and referrals
- Assigning referral and pre-certification information to the appropriate visits
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- The ideal candidate will be compassionate and naturally helpful, willing to work a problem to its successful conclusion
- Previous experience with insurance is recommended
- Excellent customer service skills and phone manners
- Must be able to manage stress in a fast-paced environment
- Detail oriented
- Good verbal and written skills
- Computer knowledge
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work from home
- An understanding of various types of insurance plans
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines
- Problem solving skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
