Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Department Leader to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This role requires strong leadership abilities, mechanical knowledge, and a commitment to fostering a positive work environment.
Reports to: Production Manager
Summary: Responsible for overseeing the operation and ensure the proper set up of lasers to minimize downtime in between jobs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities includes the following:
1. Verify job setup and operate production machines to produce products using engineering drawings and specifications.
2. Reads blueprints or job orders to obtain product specifications (dimensions and tolerances) and tooling instructions (fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools).
3. Follow job schedule to limit the amount of machine downtime.
4. Call up the correct programs into the machine controller and assist in change overs.
5. Responsible for first piece inspections.
6. Adjust the machine as needed for correct quality and customer specifications.
7. Communicate with other departments as to needs throughout the day.
8. Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized department.
9. Guides team members on company policies and ensures that they are following proper safety and ISO work procedures.
10. Completes production paperwork and first piece inspection procedures as directed while maintaining accurate daily status on all jobs.
11. Reports any discrepancies, employee issues or injuries to appropriate level of management.
12. Ensure communication with other shift about production needs.
13. Attend meetings as necessary.
14. Runs machines based on capacity needs.
15. Trains operators how to safely and efficiently operate the lasers and monitors progress upon completion of training.
16. Provides production support as needed.
17. Lead and/or support safety team initiatives.
18. All other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Computer based knowledge.
Technical knowledge of CNC platforms.
Advanced understanding of AIM’s processes.
Certified to drive a tow motor.
Excellent Communication & Interpersonal skills.
Excellent Technical Communication.
Effective Time Management.
Ability to read blue prints.
1 year supervisory experience.
Excellent mathematical skills.
Physical requirements:
Required to stand for long periods of time.
May involve some repetitive motions.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
May also engage in frequent and repetitive bending, lifting, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling of parts and part containers.
Must be comfortable working in confined spaces.
Experience
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or machining environment is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using tools such as micrometers and calipers.
- Technical Knowledge of lasers, laser program edits preferred.
- Basic math skills for measuring materials and calculating dimensions accurately.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide team members effectively.
- A commitment to safety practices in the workplace is essential.
