We currently have an opening for a Compliance Specialist. In this role, supporting operations to ensure adherence to company and legal requirements. Knowledge and experience with various legal regulatory standards in the topics of import and exports, material composition, cybersecurity, and environmental. The Compliance Specialist is responsible for administering related internal policies and procedures with oversight and guidance from Global Trade Compliance Manager.

Job Summary:
Responsibilities include working cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, value streams, and logistics in administering the company compliance program such as due diligence support, jurisdiction and classification analysis and recordkeeping, material asssessments, customs classifications, and assisting with training and procedure writing.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Support Global Compliance Manager in administering site export and import compliance programs, including acting as liaison when manager is off-site.
- Produce and analyze reports from ERP/MRP and other information systems.
- Coordinate compliance requirements and changes into functional area policies, procedures, work instructions, and forms.
- Coordinates with the Engineering and acts as a Lead classifier to make Jurisdiction and Classification determinations for the site products and technical data for submission to the Global Compliance Manager.
- Coordinates with the Engineering and acts as a Lead classifier to make Customs and Census classification (HTS and Schedule B) determinations for the site products.
- Analyze transactions for which due diligence indicates potential risk.
- Prepare complex license or permit applications, ATA Carnets, and other international business documents for review, approval, and submission by the Global Compliance Manager.
- Work pro-actively with departments to prevent business disruptions related to compliance.
- Place and release export holds on transactions under guidance with Global Compliance Manager.
- Coordinates the timely completion of third party compliance surveys.
- Verify export shipping documentation for ad-hoc and other non-routine shipments.
- Process and validate non-routine import shipping documentation.
- May troubleshoot, track and trace domestic and international shipments.
- May coordinate shipments with freight forwarders and customs brokers, and with customers or suppliers.
- Monitor and manage compliance recordkeeping.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above.
- Understand and live by AIS’s ethics and business conduct policies.
- Perform other related duties as directed.
Qualifications
- Strong familiarity with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) including anti-boycott regulations, sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customs Regulations (CR), and the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR).
- Knowledge of material compliance regulations such as TSCA, EPA,
- Strong computer skills including ability to research orders and prepare reports in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) information systems, perform spreadsheet calculations, and quickly learn new software tools.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Capable of working independently with the ability to work calmly under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to prepare business letters and complete forms.
- Ability to prepare and review international shipping documents such as commercial invoice, packing list, air waybill, and export license; including consignee information, INCOTERMS, harmonized tariff code and nomenclature, country of origin, customs value, export classification, and license data.
Education/Previous Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, law, engineering, or a related area.
- At least three years of experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) information systems to perform business transactions.
- Preference of at least three years of experience with export and/or import regulatory compliance and with international business transactions and customs shipping documents.
- Experience analyzing and classifying products to determine jurisdiction and classification.
- Experience operating in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), and Defense Export Control and Compliance System (DECCS).
- Experience with the OCR, Visual Compliance or other compliance information systems.
