Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our outpatient mental health private practice. The PMHNP will provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and care coordination for a diverse patient population. This position requires clinical excellence, timely documentation, strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, and adherence to ethical, legal, and organizational policies—including AMHAW policy, HIPAA regulations, and timely billing practices.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status exams
  • Diagnose mental health conditions using DSM-5 and ICD-10 criteria
  • Screen for suicide risk, self-harm, trauma history, and co-occurring conditions
  • Perform risk assessments and safety planning when needed

Medication Management

  • Develop individualized medication plans in collaboration with the patient
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications based on clinical response
  • Provide education on medications, side effects, and expected outcomes
  • Order and interpret labs as needed (e.g., metabolic panels, lithium levels)
  • Perform MassPAT lookup and document results before prescribing any benzodiazepine or controlled substance, per AMHAW policy

Treatment Planning & Collaboration

  • Create and update evidence-based treatment plans
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and primary care providers
  • Consult with the supervising psychiatrist or clinical director when appropriate
  • Participate in team meetings, clinical reviews, and interdisciplinary communication

Patient Communication & Boundaries

  • Provide trauma-informed and culturally sensitive care
  • Educate patients on diagnoses, medications, and self-care strategies
  • Maintain appropriate clinical boundaries and scope of practice
  • Refer patients to additional services when needed (e.g., therapy, higher levels of care)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in Tebra EHR
  • Complete all clinical documentation within 8 hours of the patient encounter
  • Ensure all documentation is finalized by the end of the workweek to allow for timely billing and claim submission
  • MassPAT lookup must be completed and documented prior to prescribing any benzodiazepine or controlled substance, in accordance with AMHAW policy
  • All phone calls with clinical significance (e.g., patient concerns, pharmacy questions, provider consults) must be documented in the EHR and billed when appropriate
  • Ensure documentation includes diagnosis codes, treatment plans, rationale for medication changes, and safety plans when applicable
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, DEA regulations, state board requirements, and organizational policies
  • Participate in chart audits, quality assurance, and internal compliance reviews
  • Maintain all licensure, credentials, and continuing education in good standing

Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted PMHNP license in the state of MA
  • Board Certification as a PMHNP-BC (ANCC)
  • Active DEA license with Schedule II-V privileges
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a focus in Psychiatric-Mental Health
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience
  • Proficiency with Tebra (formerly Kareo) EHR is not necessary; we will train.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology, DSM-5, trauma-informed care, and best practices in psychiatric care

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in outpatient or private practice mental health settings
  • Background in treating diverse populations (e.g., adolescents, trauma, LGBTQIA , neurodiverse clients)
  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms (if applicable)
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $146,652.00 - $155,807.00 per year

Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
