What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant Float position at Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine of SWFL?
Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine of SWFL is currently seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant to join our team. The right candidate will understand the value of compassionate and professional service. In this role, you would be working directly with our surgeon(s) in the treatment of bone and joint injuries and problems.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the physician during clinic hours and ensures the efficient turnover of exam rooms.
- Float between front desk reception and working back office when needed
- Responsible for rooming patients, taking vital signs and patient history, and assisting with minor procedures.
- Responsible for accurately scribing medical history in EMR.
- Maintains work area, exam rooms, medical and DME supplies, and medications.
- Applies knowledge of sterile techniques and OSHA regulations.
- Assists with educating patients about their diagnosis or injury and the physician’s treatment plan.
- Adheres to prescription refill protocol.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately and promptly to voicemails per protocol.
- Ensures completion and submission of DWC forms.
- Schedules surgical procedures as directed by the physician and ensures patients are completely informed regarding surgery procedures.
- Adheres to all professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Would like to have the following certification but not required:
- Active CMA/RMA
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and orthopedic nomenclature
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Willingness to commute to both locations in Fort Myers and Cape Coral
- Excellent customer-service and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

- Ability to multi-task
- Organizational skills
- Computer literacy; experience with EHR (Allscripts a plus)
EXPERIENCE Preferred but not required:HOURS: M-F 8:00am-5:00pm
- Orthopedic experience- 1 year (Preferred)
- Certified Medical Assistant – 1 year (Preferred)
