Description

The Controls Engineer position is responsible for overseeing controls engineering project requirements involving control system & panel design, PLC & HMI programming, instrumentation, and start-up assistance. This position will design electrical layouts and automate APT’s custom products to exceed our customers’ needs. In this role, you will be part of a team that executes projects ranging from $100K – $2M in automation scope while partnering with our Process Engineers to complete overall projects in the $500K- $50M range.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  

  • Designs, develops, and implements control systems to meet process system requirements.
  • Perform PLC and HMI programming, and custom reporting.
  • Perform in-house program testing and customer Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. 
  • Own projects from idea to completion, including participating in the commissioning and start-up process remotely and at the customer job site (s).
  • Partner with Process Engineers in developing the control system strategy and equipment list. 
  • Lay out IO for controls panels and redline existing drawings.
  • Test control panels and set up instruments and devices.
  • Develop SOPs for the control system.
  • Train the end user on operating the control system.
  • Member of the on-call team that provides technical support for existing customers. Technical lead on projects while also mentoring and guiding lower-level engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

  

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering OR Equivalent years of experience in automation.
  • 3 years of experience in custom automation.
  • An in-depth understanding of control systems, components, logic programming, experience with instrumentation and      controls design, and PLC systems (specifically Rockwell).
  • Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work well with team members, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a      third-party employer.
  • Travel up to 30%.

Preferred:

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or EPlan.
  • Experience with Ignition and/or Wonderware.
  • Experience within the food and beverage industry.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $85,000-$130,000

  • The salary range provided reflects the anticipated base compensation for this position. At APT, we are committed to offering compensation that is competitive and aligned with market standards, considering factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, and performance. As a result, compensation for the successful candidate(s) may fall anywhere within the stated range.
