Position Summary: The Mechanical Engineer performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of capital projects. This position works with experience personnel supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects with activities including assisting with preparation of labor/material estimates and design packages. Work is typically performed in the office and field.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set a good example with all rules and regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance with HS&E (Health, Safety & Environmental) Procedures/Regulations
- Compile data for project reports, collect and compile field data, assist with proposal efforts as directed, document technical data for management review, and provide other entry level duties as assigned
- Collect and interpret engineering data, development of project design, and development of specifications and performance of detailed engineering
- Perform system walk downs to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance to design and customer requirements
- Learn applicable engineering codes and standards but not limited to ANSI, API and ASME as well as company policies and procedures
- Ensure construction practices as required are compliant with operations/execution with federal, state, local and plant codes/policies
- Review process package and prepare equipment/material specifications sheets to order items; review with vendor to confirm capability and delivery to meet project objectives
- Analyze field data in operating facilities
- Some travel is required
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 2 years of experience in engineering
Additional Qualifications:
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D, 3D preferred
- Engineering Fundamentals Exam completed or planned for near term
- Basic understanding of PFDs, P&IDs, and line lists as well as equipment design and PVF
- Understanding of piping systems, process equipment such as tanks, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, agitators, screw conveyors, belt conveyors, power transmission, etc.
- Understanding of equipment components including shafts, material of construction, bearings, seals, gearing, piping schedules, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with industrial equipment, installations, or equipment layouts
- Hands-on experience in installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment in an industrial facility preferred
- Ability to learn and become proficient in PV Elite and Caesar software
- Additional certifications (including PE) a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- General understanding of safety programs and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements while performing field research
- Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
- Able to manage multiple priorities
