We seek a Database Administrator (DBA) for a 6-month contract-to-hire role, with the potential to transition to full-time. This is a remote position for candidates based in the Central or Eastern Time Zones, with a preference for candidates local to the Kansas City area. You will join a dynamic team to support MSSQL and Oracle database administration and multi-tier application environments.

Your Job

You will be critical in managing and optimizing MSSQL and Oracle databases within a multi-tier environment. This includes configuring, monitoring, and maintaining database health through load balancing, backup/recovery, and diagnostics. Leveraging your expertise in automation tools like PowerShell and Python, you will drive efficiencies while deploying and supporting cloud-based platforms like AWS and Azure. Your ability to collaborate across IT infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and deliver scalable database solutions will ensure operational excellence.

The Work

• Administer, configure, and optimize MSSQL and Oracle databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Manage database tasks such as backup/recovery, load balancing, space management, and RAC configuration.
• Perform PL/SQL tuning and diagnostics to maintain optimal database performance.
• Install, upgrade, and support MSSQL and Oracle databases and their associated application software stacks, including database servers, application servers, web servers, WebLogic, and concurrent processing.
• Architect, deploy and support technologies leveraging Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS cloud platforms.
• Develop and implement automation scripts using tools like PowerShell, Python, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible to streamline database operations.
• Collaborate with teams to design and implement secure connectivity solutions involving Cisco, VPN, Palo Alto, and ASA technologies.
• Manage virtualized environments using VMware and support systems on Linux and Windows platforms.
• Troubleshoot database and application performance issues, ensuring fast resolution and minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience as an MSSQL/Oracle Database Administrator with demonstrated enterprise application expertise.
• Hands-on experience with MSSQL and Oracle database configuration, administration, and optimization in a multi-tier environment.
• Proficiency in database load balancing, backup/recovery, and PL/SQL tuning.
• Strong background in cloud-based database solutions, with experience in Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.
• Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with orchestration technologies like Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Vagrant, or Salt.
• Working knowledge of Cisco VPN, Palo Alto, ASA, VMware, and Linux/Windows environments.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage database performance in mission-critical environments.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Prior experience in creating scalable, cloud-native database architectures.
• Hands-on experience with advanced diagnostics tools and techniques for database performance.
