The Role You’ll Contribute
Oversees the genetic counseling program and the activities of the staff. Collaborates with departments and services in the organization to grow the referral base, maximize billing, enhance physician relationships, provide consultation to patients and medical staff, provide community education, and assure documentation meets regulatory requirements. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The ARNP works in collaboration with the medical, nursing and support services to provide patient and family focused care. The ARNP maintains active participation in PI activities, data collection, staff development and continuing education.

The Role You’ll Contribute
Oversees the genetic counseling program and the activities of the staff. The Value You’ll Bring To The Team
- Manages patient referrals, obtains consultations, and interprets tests with the assistance of physicians as necessary. Gives follow up care instructions to ensure optima care coordination.
- Orders genetic lab work for genetic testing, appropriate.
- Determine risk factors for hereditary diseases and disorders in patients, and offer education and counseling to patients and their families.
- Performs history and physical examinations, gather a comprehensive patient and family history, analyze genetic data and communicate risk factors to patients and their families. A family history of cancer, muscular dystrophy, or cystic fibrosis might cause an individual to seek genetic counseling.
- Tasked with identifying potential predispositions for physical and mental diseases and disorders, genetic counselors are trained in the following:
- Refers patient for specialized consultations, as necessary.
- Initiates treatment of emergency management and patient resuscitation.
- Conducts follow up patient care.
- Utilizes his/her knowledge and skills in giving safe and effective patient care and teaching.
- Orders and monitors tests results.
- Participates in hospital/community functions.
- Consistently complies with documentation standards and regulatory requirements including those set forth by American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
- Participates in cancer registry data collection interpretation and implementation to improve metrics.
- Works with nurse navigators to assure appropriate utilization of services and coordination of care.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Masters degree in Nursing
- NPC - Certified Nurse Practitioner
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Past teaching experience in formal/informal settings
- Complete genetic counselling training/certification within one (1) year of hire
- Master's in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics, or related field
- Three (3) or more years experience in genetic counseling and program development
- One (1) or more years experience in overseeing staff and monitoring of budgets
