We are seeking a dynamic leader to elevate AdventHealth's environmental sustainability efforts. This role will be instrumental in setting a bold, visionary strategy, building on the progress made over the past four years, and driving the next phase of our sustainability journey. The Executive Director/Vice President of Environmental Sustainability will lead initiatives to reduce emissions, waste, water, and food footprints and increase climate resilience across our infrastructure, clinical preparedness, and operations. This position requires an individual who can manage detailed projects, convey complex ideas in a simple way, and work closely with various leaders throughout the organization understanding perspectives and process.

The Role You’ll Contribute

This position requires an individual who can manage detailed projects, convey complex ideas in a simple way, and work closely with various leaders throughout the organization understanding perspectives and process.
The Value You’ll Bring To The Team
- Vision & Leadership: Set a vision for environmental sustainability at AdventHealth, expanding upon current initiatives and establishing new goals that continues to move AdventHealth along a journey towards environmental sustainability preeminence.
- Program Oversight: Lead projects to reduce the organization's environmental footprint in emissions, waste, water, and food. Increase climate resilience in infrastructure, clinical preparedness, and regulatory compliance. Assist environmental sustainability efforts and improve resilience in supply chain and investment operations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders, including the CFO, Chief Investment Officer, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, and facility sustainability councils. Collaborate closely with the leaders of the supply chain and investment teams. Work very closely with the communications team for both internal and external sustainability strategies. Work with DEI and health equity teams to ensure sustainability efforts support the broader sustainability initiatives. Foster strong relationships with external partners, including financial institutions, community organizations, and foundation boards.
- Team Management: Develop and lead an expanding team, including experts in communications, data, and analytics, ensuring integration and alignment with organizational sustainability goals.
- Communication & Advocacy: Advocate for sustainability initiatives within AdventHealth by clearly articulating the vision and importance to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate closely with the communications team to ensure consistent, effective messaging. Serve as a representative of AdventHealth's sustainability efforts in industry forums and media, ensuring alignment in internal and external communication strategies.
- Success Metrics (12-24 Months): Expand the environmental team's current work to include waste and water while developing resiliency strategies, demonstrating tangible progress, and garnering positive feedback from the existing team regarding leadership abilities.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :
Education And Experience Required
- Bachelor's or higher in sustainability, climate science, or a related field; or more than 5 years of experience leading in corporate sustainability
- Demonstrated experience in setting visionary sustainability strategies and leading significant sustainability projects.
- Experience affecting change within large and complex organizations, working within an established cultural framework.
- Proven ability to collaborate across diverse functions and levels within a large organization.
- Public speaking experience and ability to represent the work both internally and externally.
- Experience participating in industry forums such as COP, World Economic Forum, CleanMed, GreenBiz, GreenFin, or Milken Institute.
- Strong technical understanding of environmental sustainability, including emissions reduction, waste management, water conservation, and climate resilience.
- Familiarity with supply chain and investment concepts as it relates to Scope 3.
- Familiarity with sustainability software such as Watershed and Also Energy.
- Knowledge of standards such as SASB, CDP, PCAF, and IFRS. Familiarity with data visualization platforms such as Sigma is also beneficial.
- Excellent listening skills, with the ability to understand organizational dynamics and culture.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- A leadership style that emphasizes vision, care, and the ability to inspire others.
- Alignment with AdventHealth's mission and values, including a commitment to extending the healing ministry of Christ.
