We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Vice President, Hospital Medicine and Clinical Documentation Improvement (VP of HM/CDI) position located at our headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the system Chief Medical Officer, the VP of HM/CDI will be a strong leader, capable of engaging strategically with physicians, clinicians, and executives to build robust relationships. The VP of HM/CDI has significant demonstrated hospital medicine leadership and operations experience, is knowledgeable in the areas of clinical documentation, coding, healthcare regulations and compliance as well as knowledge of and commitment to quality, safety, principles of high reliability and delivering high value care.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hospital Medicine:
Provide clinical direction, leadership and alignment to the AdventHealth Hospital Medicine Program and Hospitalist Groups including approximately 800 employed, non-employed and contracted hospitalists at 50 acute care facilities across nine states serving approximately 360,000 patients annually.
Develop and implement strategic and operational models to achieve top quartile or higher clinical care, conform to AdventHealth and national expectations and benchmarks and achieve clinical and value goals of the AdventHealth hospital medicine program.
Oversee the development and maintenance of metrics and dashboards that support AdventHealth Hospital Medicine objectives.
Ensure that Hospital Medicine programs at AdventHealth use interdisciplinary models, standardize multidisciplinary rounds, and integrate principles of effective teams and high reliability into work processes.
Recognize that an acute inpatient hospital stay is just one event in patient’s health care and coordinate/implement a strategy to ensure that AH meets national benchmarks of care in care continuum and population health management.
Evaluate individual hospital medicine programs and work with institutional leaders to develop and implement a plan to have programs achieve system and institutional goals.
Understand AdventHealth Hospital Medicine finance and lead efforts to bring optimal value for investment in hospital medicine.
Collaborate with Safety and Quality, Informatics, Nursing, Care Management and Evidence Based Care leadership and hospital medicine providers to standardize and implement consensus algorithms of care in hospital medicine that achieve superior clinical outcomes, reduce unnecessary variation in care and achieve best value.
Collaborate with Critical Care, Emergency Medicine and Post-Acute Leadership to synchronize care with Hospital Medicine to achieve best outcomes.
Develop programs to promote and ensure that all providers of Hospital Medicine practice at top of license.
Innovate practices and processes in virtual care, professional practices and technology that will advance efficiency and outcomes of hospital medicine care.
Continue the development and education of Hospital Medicine Leaders through the Hospital Medicine Leadership Fellowship program in collaboration with the AH Leadership Institute.
Develop Hospitalist environments of care and wellness programs that promote and support AH Hospital Medicine Providers.
Clinical Documentation Improvement:
Provide clinical direction, leadership and alignment of clinical documentation improvement and partnership with revenue cycle and coding leadership to achieve complete and accurate documentation and coding by and for approximately 16,000 AdventHealth credentialed providers including employed, non-employed and contracted providing services at 50 acute care facilities across nine states.
Provide direction and physician leadership to assure that physician documentation in the EMR accurately and completely reflects the severity, intensity, and complexity of the care provided to our patients.
Lead the standardization and application of Clinical Documentation Improvement programs, technology, and resources across AdventHealth.
Foster a culture of absolute integrity and compliance in AdventHealth clinical documentation.
Collaborate closely with Revenue Cycle and Finance leaders to ensure that coding accurately and completely reflects the severity, intensity, and complexity of the care provided to our patients.
Collaborate with the AH CMO, CMIO, facility C-Suite, facility CMO and regional CMIO’s, facility physician liaisons and facility clinical informatics leads, to coordinate and provide leadership, direction, guidance, and training for the successful implementation of EHR technology that advances complete, accurate and efficient documentation and coding.
Implement and Optimize the Quality and Safety of Care Review Process across AdventHealth
Provide oversight and clinical expertise for programs designed to improve healthcare delivery that aligns with physician practice excellence, promotes appropriate resource utilization, while improving patient outcomes.
Disseminate best practice, benchmarks, and dashboard results to Medical Staff with recommendations on process improvement initiatives.
Incorporate healthcare regulatory and compliance education to facilities Medical Staff as directed.
Offer support and guidance to Chief Medical Officers through successful training and education initiatives designed to improve physician productivity and reduce physician workload within the hospital setting.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Broad knowledge of hospital medicine clinical practice, hospital medicine group practice operations and management
Effective leadership skills to lead in the development of integrated healthcare models that create physician alignment and seek to promote patient centered/quality care
Strong presentation skills with the ability to engage others
Ability to captivate and engage others in the development of performance improvement initiatives for AH facilities as identified by AH senior leadership.
Ability to develop and interpret data and statistical frameworks that drive data driven decisions
Excellent analytical and problem -solving skills
Knowledge of physician documentation requirements that support the ICD-10 coding framework
Knowledge of hospital reimbursement models and trends and their impact to the health systems and physician providers
Expertise in evaluating and interpreting federal and state healthcare regulatory guidelines
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
MD or DO degree
Minimum of seven (7) years of leadership experience in a hospital medicine program and/or health system senior clinical leadership role with hospital medicine responsibility
Minimum ten (10) years’ clinical practice experience with at least seven (7) years practice in hospital medicine
Current active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state where AdventHealth operates
Current, active Board Specialization or Board eligible by an ABMS recognized Board
Education, Licensure, Experience Preferred:
Current or recent practice experience (within two years preferred)
Experience and/or leadership of clinical documentation improvement, revenue cycle and/ or medical practice leadership/management
Master’s degree in healthcare, analytics, business administration or related field.
