Job Summary:
Role works with Bronchoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) procedures. Monitors patient during procedure with recognition of alteration in physiological and psychological status of patient. Recovery of patient post sedation. Utillizes knowledge of post procedure complications and discharge criteria. Ability to provide patient clear and concise follow up instructions at time of discharge. Demonstrates understanding and interpretation of diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams, and EKG interpretation. Utilizes professional nursing judgment, takes action to implement the nursing care plan and resolve the problems identified for the individual patient. Knowledgeable about equipment and supplies used for procedures, including proper cleaning and handling. Practices infection control techniques.

Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
- Associate Degree(A.A. or A.S.): Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current RN license in state of practice: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Healthstream Advanced Cardiac Life Support (HS-ACLS) or RQIACLS: Required
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for ensuring all equipment for GI procedures is properly set up. Must demonstrate competency in techniques of endoscope manipulation, knowledge of complications associated with endoscopy and their symptoms, appropriate interventions under the direction of the endoscopist. Assisting the physician and/ or advanced provider during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Follows hospital policy for Minimal/Moderate sedation. Including pre and post assessment. Completes physical and social history within 30mins after patients arrival. Identifies common recurrent patient problems, symptoms and behavioral changes using standards of care.
- Reviews medical history, physical examination, nursing care plan and all available assessment data. Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life threatening emergencies in populations served. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation. Understands and follows chain of command per policy.
- Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and reports it to the appropriate person. Recognizes symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress or other impending emergencies.
- Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each pt in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan. Participates in the universal protocol time out process on each patient. Consistently performs necessary unit specific safety & quality control checks (i.e. VO/TO Read Back, crash cart checks, refrig logs & outdate checks).
