Overview
As a Rafting Guide, you will lead and educate groups through thrilling white-water rafting experiences while ensuring their safety and enjoyment. Our guides raft scenic trips, whitewater trips, and canopy tours on the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers in the Missoula, Montana area. They also help pull boats for rentals and guide kayaking tours on the Clark Fork River. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for outdoor adventure. You will be responsible for providing an unforgettable experience for our guests, sharing your knowledge of the river environment, and fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie among participants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rafting trips on various river sections, ensuring the safety of all participants. Captain both paddle and oar boats.
  • Communicate effectively with guests to provide instructions and safety briefings before each trip.
  • Educate guests about the river ecology, safety practices, and rafting techniques.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills by managing group dynamics and ensuring a positive experience for all.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing guest inquiries and concerns promptly.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure all gear is in good working condition before each trip.
  • Collaborate with fellow guides to enhance the overall experience for guests.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure timely departures and arrivals.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old for insurance reasons.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience in guiding or outdoor education preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with diverse groups.
  • Public speaking experience to confidently address groups of varying sizes during safety talks.
  • Ability to educate participants about safety protocols and river ecology.
  • Excellent customer service skills to create a welcoming environment for guests.
  • Strong time management skills to coordinate schedules effectively.
  • A passion for outdoor activities and a commitment to providing memorable experiences.
  • Must be willing to travel and work on all of the river sections offered by Adventure Missoula for the summer and must have a way of communication when away from the office
  • Have a professional attitude and be willing to learn and accept new ideas
  • Must be able to work long hours and not be subject to burnout and moodiness.
  • Work well under pressure and be a team player.
  • Guides will need to purchase various gear such as a type III (minimum) lifejacket, a knife, whistle, cold weather gear (wetsuit or equivalent) and pro deals are available.
