AEC Electrical Contractors, LLC, A Norlee Company is looking for a highly motivated Senior Electrical Estimator to join our team.

The individual in this role is a knowledgeable Electrical Estimator with a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience. The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for producing accurate and timely electrical estimates for projects across the Norlee platform, developing comprehensive and competitive bids. This role will also work closely with the internal and external business development and executive teams to provide support on bids and collaborate with the Vice President as well as other estimators to ensure that the company remains competitive in the marketplace.

Key Measurables

The success of this role can be gauged by the following metrics:

  • Successfully estimate and secure a minimum of $15-20 million in electrical projects annually.
  • The expected weekly estimating volume should be between $5M and $7M per week on average, the equivalent of $250M - $300M annually.
  • Consistently perform accurate take-offs following company mandated processes and procedures.
  • Accurately and routinely determine true job cost inclusive of all labor, material, quoted equipment, subcontractors, rentals, and any direct charges.
  • Determine the appropriate labor rates for the different labor classifications and skill level.
  • Consistently estimates target projects within 5% of the electrical marketplace estimates.
  • All estimates are prepared in a timely fashion and completed well in advance of deadlines.
  • Consistently and regularly communicates with the Vice President and executive team on deliverables and clearly communicates the ability to meet expectations.
  • Maintain an audit trail with appropriate documentation to support an effective job review and turnover.
  • Timely prepares and distributes for pricing, a complete bill of materials for obtaining quotations for lighting and switchgear.
  • Timely prepares and distributes for pricing, a complete subcontractor request for quote “RFQ” proposals.
  • Determine a project’s constructability and clearly articulate and present the associated premium if any.
  • Consistently develop and establish a list of cost saving measures and value engineering items.
  • Present estimates which are “Ready for Review” reflecting the normal adjustments which are consistent and customary with the norms of the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

An individual in this role is a professional and personable person, committed to the success of all projects and the organization, demonstrated by performing the following duties, where other applicable duties or responsibilities may be assigned from time to time:

  • Prepare, coordinate and/or support the preparation of full cost estimates for all projects.
  • Thoroughly review all bid documents, including specifications, drawings, instructions to bidders, basis of design, etc. to determine an accurate estimate and scope of work.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on pricing from suppliers through direct contact, Estimating Software, price lists, etc.
  • Support other department personnel as required which may include preparing estimates in other disciplines requiring this position to available during normal business hours
  • May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Travel to job sites and attend pre-bid job walks as well as meet with select vendors and subcontractors to review project requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of the National Electric Code as pertains to each project.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the Vice President or local Vice President.
  • Participate / Lead in the corporate Accubid and Live Count process committee.
  • Interfaces with and communicates effectively, both written and orally, the estimating team, with all levels of management, vendors, clients, and industry contracts.
  • Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the estimating team in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, process, and code compliant standards.
  • Implements and maintains the Norlee systems and procedures as they pertain to the estimating process.
  • Supervises quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well noted for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by Norlee policies.
  • Thoroughly reviews discipline specific subcontractor and vendor bid documents and compares their proposals/bids to the project specific requirements and assesses potential risk.
  • Provides clear direction and training to the estimating team members and distributes workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths, while insuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities.
  • Evaluate and estimate complex drawings to verify fixture types and quantities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To successfully perform and execute the requirements of this role, the individual must hold or exhibit the following qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree or equivalent of experience and education in construction or engineering or a related discipline and 10 years of progressive estimating experience or the equivalent of education and experience.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

An individual in this role is responsible for ensuring that work is performed within the established policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization and applicable legislation.

Language Skills

An individual in this role must be able to create written reports, estimates, and instructions/procedures, as well as research and deliver verbal information with clients, representatives, and staff. Frequent face-to-face interaction with clients, general contractor representatives, and other Norlee staff is required.

Mathematical Skills

Proven skills to deal with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to compute percentages, costs, gross margins and gross profits on material, labor, and project estimates. A strong detail orientation and demonstrated drive to meet established deadlines, with high quality work and supporting backup.

Technical / Software Skills

Proficiency with Accubid, Live Count, Bluebeam, Procore, and the MS Office suite.

Physical Demands

The individual is frequently required to walk, stand, reach, and crouch. Frequent use of hands with dexterity is required to operate tools.

Work Environment

The environment is typically an office but can be construction sites at varying degrees of completion where exposure varies with the degrees of hazards potentially present. Protective headwear, footwear, ear protection, and eye protection are usually necessary depending on circumstances. The walking surfaces can vary from uneven dirt with excavated areas to lose gravel to hard concrete floors.
