The Flight Software Developer will be responsible for the development of flight software components for the Orion spacecraft. The position requires experience in C and Python programming languages, along with a strong Computer Science (CS) background. The ideal candidate will work with the development team to design, test, and maintain flight software that ensures reliable and effective operation of spacecraft systems. Key responsibilities include software development, testing, debugging, and maintaining flight software systems, with particular focus on rendezvous proximity operations and docking (RPOD) software and real-time operating systems (RTEMS/RTOS).

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain flight software for spacecraft navigation, control, and mission management.
- Write and optimize software in C and Python for flight system components.
- Collaborate with team members and technical stakeholders to ensure that flight software meets the mission requirements.
- Develop software for RPOD (rendezvous proximity operations and docking) systems, ensuring the software is reliable and performs within required operational parameters.
- Provide RTEMS/RTOS support and ensure flight software integrates effectively with real-time operating systems.
- Test, debug, and optimize flight software systems for performance and reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of flight software development processes, including code quality and development efficiency.
- Support project design reviews (PDR, CDR)
- Participate in regular team meetings to provide status and coordinate with teammates
REQUIRED:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree; or no experience required with a related PhD or JD.
- C and Python programming experience.
- Strong Computer Science (CS) background.
- Experience with flight software development in aerospace or related fields.
- Proven ability to design, develop, and debug complex software systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams.
- Must have US Citizenship.
- Motivated self-starter willing to take initiative.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, project leads, customers, and with contract colleagues is essential.
- Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence of the customer and contract personnel. A close, cooperative customer interface is essential.
- Mature, professional judgment in establishing objectives, milestones and priorities.
- Reliable and dependable work habits and dedication to get the job done.
- Experience with CFE/CFS (Core Flight Executive/Core Flight Software).
- RPOD (rendezvous proximity operations and docking) software experience.
- Familiarity with RTEMS/RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems) and supporting software development for real-time systems.
- Background in simulation software development or related software engineering disciplines.
- Experience with development simulations and software tools used in aerospace software development.
- Experience working on government contracts.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
