Description
DESCRIPTION
The DOT Specialist will primarily be responsible for assisting Corporate DOT/Fleet Compliance Manager in all aspects of Department of Transportation (DOT) administration and compliance for new and existing Company drivers and vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- New driver orientation to include hours of service training, load securement, and DVIR completion prior to getting behind the wheel;
- Creation and administration of specialized driver training pertinent to our industry, including but not limited to proper pre-trip inspection techniques;
- Manages expiration data associated with the department (CDL, Medical Examiner’s Report, Required Training, etc.) in the form of a Driver Expiration Report and communicates report to all districts.
- Assists Corporate DOT/Fleet Compliance in the facilitation of new hire on boarding for DOT and Non DOT new hires;
- Registers Company vehicles and units (DOT and non-DOT) online and in-person at DPS and tax assessor offices;
- Updates and maintains Driver Qualification files.
- Assists in the completion of driver qualifications i.e...drug testing, DOT physicals, Clearinghouse queries, and all other related DOT driver requirements.
- Assists in compiling data for Corporate DOT/Fleet Compliance Manager for external audits by regulatory agencies;
- Daily processing, handling, and data entry of documents, files, forms, and requests;
- Facilitates fuel cards and binders for new and existing vehicles;
- Maintains databases for registration, licensing, fuel cards, vehicle inspections, and records inspection;
- Maintains and utilizes best industry practices and;
- All other duties as assigned. SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Intermediate knowledge of DOT regulations, including HAZMAT transportation laws
- Intermediate knowledge of multi-state transportation regulations, including insurance and permit requirements
- Ability to multitask and work with strict deadlines.
- Relevant experience in commercial motor vehicle fleet management, transportation, logistics, and DOT compliance or similar roles
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations associated with interstate and intrastate transportation requirements promulgated by the states of operation
- Ability to travel periodically and available for extended hours as business dictates
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree preferred OR 2 years DOT compliance experience.
- Professional certifications plus
- Oilfield chemical services DOT experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires the ability to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday.
- Manual dexterity and vision sufficient to operate computer systems for potentially long
periods of time without experiencing abnormal hand, wrist or eye strain.
- Hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone.
- Occasional filing and lifting up to 30 lbs.
TRAVEL
This position requires local and regional travel, up to 25%.
