AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc. (“AEGIS”) has an opening for Account Professional Loss Control Manager.

The Account Professional Loss Control Manager supports, coordinates, and implements the company’s Property Loss Control programs in order to support the Underwriting Division while providing property (machinery, fire and other related perils, and renewables) loss control services to AEGIS Insureds / Members and brokers. This includes assisting with their efforts to mitigate the frequency and severity of incurred losses while generating value to support the company’s Loss Control Property Operations.

Job Requirements :

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience at a utility in power plant production or in a risk management or loss control discipline associated with the power and / or utility industry
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing people desired, experience managing remote workers a plus
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering (area of study in fire protection, electrical or mechanical desired), Science, or Loss Control discipline
  • Professional certification in safety or engineering from a nationally recognized organization desired
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
  • Travel required (approximately 50% to 70%)
  • Experience working independently with limited guidance and / or leading people / initiatives through influence rather than directing in a command and control style are a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of boiler and machinery equipment, principles, policies and practices including how it relates to loss control risk assessments and mitigation activities
  • In depth knowledge of loss control (fire and machinery breakdown) principles, codes, standards, and practices associated with the electric power generating industry. This includes (but not limited to), applied knowledge of the ASME, IEEE, and NFPA codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of the Insurance industry desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office : specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Essential Job Functions :

    Staff Management and Development

    Supervise and oversee the work produced by property operations account professional personnel, including occasional field visits (risk assessments and specialized services) to ensure quality, consistency, and accurate terminology

    Support the Loss Control Property Operations Vice President in the performance of reviews of staff personnel

  • Communicate with staff members on a regular basis to share information and resolve work-related issues
  • Review and evaluate staff’s work to ensure proper prioritization of their work and quality of the Account Reviews
  • Review and evaluate staff’s work for consistent methodology when assessing and evaluating Member accounts
  • Develop newly hired staff to ensure they understand loss control processes, procedures, and standards
  • Ensure the timely completion of work activities by staff
  • Conduct performance reviews of staff personnel in accordance with applicable company procedures
  • Develop staff in areas of improvement and / or growth
  • Project and Program Management

  • Assist in the development of project proposals, tracking the progress of projects, development of time and expense estimates, coordination of work with third-party organizations
  • Collaboration and Customer Support

  • Attend Insureds / Member servicing meetings as delegated by the Loss Control Property Operations Vice President, to provide technical input pertaining to their facilities in the areas of fire protection and machinery breakdown while showcasing Loss Control in the best positive light
  • Support coordination of property loss control services for AEGIS Insureds / Member companies
  • Attend Insureds / Broker meetings as requested by the Property Underwriting Division
  • Attend, if requested, the AEGIS Policyholders’ Conference to provide support for the Property Underwriting Division during scheduled Insureds meetings
  • Represent AEGIS in a professional manner when meeting with Insureds and brokers
  • Research and Analysis

  • Assist the Loss Control Property Operations Vice President in providing technical input for the materials supplied by Loss Control to the Board of Directors or other Committees
  • Identify systemic or developing issues in the areas of machinery and property (fire and other related perils) loss control
  • Oversee, develop, and provide Probable Maximum Loss (PML) and Maximum Foreseeable Loss (MFL) worksheets for all new submissions and renewals as requested by the Property Underwriting Division
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to Underwriting related to steam and combustion turbines technology, major equipment exposures, loss exposures, etc. related to electric, natural gas, and water utilities
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to Underwriting related to renewable generation or develop a proficiency in this area to bring value added service and support
  • Perform Underwriting Surveys / Risk Assessments at Insureds facilities to provide technical information related to equipment exposures, operational and maintenance practices, preventive maintenance practices, fire protection related exposures, etc. as requested by Underwriting
  • Suggest an Underwriting Survey / Risk Assessments to the Property Underwriting Division when insufficient information is provided with the submission
  • Provide technical related documents and support to the VP and National Property and Machinery Managers and staff, Underwriting, and Claims, pertaining to engineering information on major exposures, equipment technology, etc. for distribution to the Loss Control Property Operations staff
  • Provide Underwriting with timely and accurate account review reports and PML / MFL worksheets for new submissions and renewals as requested
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information pertinent to the services provided within the Underwriting SharePoint and NextGen databases
  • Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee and perform, as needed, Account Review related services, i.e. reviewing engineering reports, reviewing loss history, etc. related to documentation received for new submissions and renewals as requested by the Property Underwriting Division
  • Review Natural Catastrophe exposures, i.e., earthquake, flood, and windstorm for Insureds facilities utilizing Risk Meter, Google Earth, FEMA website, etc.
  • Participate in industry associations to stay abreast of technical changes and developments
  • Interface with the Property & Machinery loss control staff to gain a better understanding of operating conditions, maintenance practices, and equipment issues and recent failures at specific facilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information pertinent to the services provided within the Underwriting databases
  • Gain proficiency in technical areas where current expertise is limited
  • Maintain professional licenses and or certifications, if currently a holder, through continuing education credits or by other accredited means

    We expect to pay a starting salary between $160,000 and $190,000. An applicant’s placement within this range is based on their individual qualifications and professional experience. In addition to base salary, AEGIS employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s annual incentive program, with competitive awards based on corporate and individual performance.
