Job Summary
Serve as the Distribution Standards liaison supporting the Operating Company to provide uniform and consistent line construction and maintenance practices utilizing approved materials that provide for the safety of American Electric Power’s (AEP’s) employees and the public, while achieving a balance between optimal lifecycle cost and reliability.Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates a strong knowledge of distribution systems.
- Demonstrates the ability to understand and perform technical functions required in relevant area of assignment.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to use technical and computer tools to perform assignments in most cost effective method possible. Ensures compliance with standards, codes, regulations, practices, and procedures in area of assignment.
- Assists in leading the work activities within work group, team, department or other corporate entity as necessary to perform all routine engineering technical assignments.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly to various groups within the assigned OPCOs (AEP - Ohio and Indiana Michigan) distribution standards issues.
- Organizes and conducts meetings with internal customers and suppliers in the OPCOs.
- Coordinates work or training with suppliers and internal or external customers.
- Coordinates field trials within the OPCO, making sure the trial is documented and all of the correct data is collected to assist in making a decision on approving material.
- Supports the Engineering Best Practices team, to include helping maintain district preferences in the OPCO for material issued through DDS.
- Reviews trends of material and equipment performance at assigned OPCO, to include investigating failures and working with the vendor/manufacturer and the distribution standards SME to initiate necessary corrective action.
- Demonstrates the ability to work beyond routine assignments on moderate to complex issues. Seeks to broaden knowledge in areas of the company and industry which will complement acquired technical skills. Leads and facilitates meetings effectively. Networks with peers inside and outside the AEP System. Identifies key stakeholders.
- Uses informal network to get things done. Develops and presents technical reports clearly, concisely and effectively. Uses diverse approaches to make decisions in the absence of a definite framework or where few precedents exist. Makes decisions that may affect the operations or results of the team and which may impact the business unit.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle conflicting interests related to projects or special tasks. Also demonstrates the ability to analyze options and risks. Exhibits awareness of AEP’s competitive position and how business decisions impact their organizational units
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Meets expectations of the Distribution Standards Field Rep level
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and four (4) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or
- Associate's degree in a relevant field of study and six (6) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or
- High School diploma or GED and eight (8) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and two (2) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or
- Associate's degree in a relevant field of study and four (4) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or
- High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
PREFERRED SKILL SETS:
Working knowledge of the following: Distribution Design Studio (DDS), Maximo, EEMS, Survey123, ArcGIS, Atlas.
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code.
