Location: Panama City, FLJob Type: Full-TimeSecurity Clearance: Secret AERMOR is seeking a Network Specialist – Cable Plant II to provide support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) Enterprise Architect in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the NSWC PCD network infrastructure, including RDT&E and NMCI networks. This role requires expertise in cable plant hardware and software, network infrastructure installations, and compliance with STIG requirements. The specialist will also assist in developing network documentation, designing infrastructure layouts, and ensuring optimal cable management and connectivity.Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, upgrade, replace, or remove cable plant (CP) hardware and software components within NSWC PCD networks.
  • Lead installation of cable racks, conduit, Panduit, and other support structures to ensure cable protection and aesthetics.
  • Perform network infrastructure changes due to personnel relocations, hardware/software upgrades, or facility renovations.
  • Install, repair, and replace cabinets, racks, cable management systems, patch panels, and fiber distribution boxes.
  • Install and terminate Category 6 (CAT6) cables and Single Mode/Multimode (SM/MM) fiber.
  • Pull new fiber optic cabling between buildings or different levels within buildings.
  • Trace and patch through fiber or perform fusion splicing as needed.
  • Conduct network surveys and document findings.
  • Develop and review network infrastructure designs for RDT&E networks.
  • Prepare Visio and AutoCAD drawings, including building layouts, mechanical room diagrams, and fiber/cable infrastructure schematics.
  • Research and recommend network materials and equipment.
  • Submit purchase orders for required materials and tools.
  • Review dig permits to prevent damage to existing cabling.
  • Test network drops and infrastructure using government-provided testing equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair physical network connectivity issues.
  • Perform cable plant troubleshooting and installation for CAT5/6, RJ-11, RJ-45 terminations, and fiber optic connections.
  • Ensure continuity, availability, and signal quality of all installed cables.
  • Prepare and maintain network documentation, including floor plans, network diagrams, and infrastructure layouts using Microsoft Visio.
  • Maintain an inventory of government site support materials, tools, and consumables such as fiber termination kits, connectors, and patch cables.
  • Submit requests for material orders and manage inventory of essential networking components.
  • Provide technical solutions for new cabling installations, redesigns, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Guide and mentor Level I Network Specialists for Cable Plant.
  • Act as a network task lead for intermediate and junior-level specialists for short-term configuration and deployment projects.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3 years of hands-on experience with network cable installations, terminations, and maintenance.
  • Experience with cable plant systems, including complete copper and fiber optic subsystems used for transmitting electrical and optical signals between active communication equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for network diagramming and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of network infrastructure and cabling standards.
  • Familiarity with DoD STIG compliance requirements.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot connectivity issues effectively.
  • Experience in structured cabling design and implementation.
