Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Production Manager to oversee all manufacturing operations at our Maize, Kansas facility. This critical leadership position is responsible for directing production activities, optimizing workflow processes, ensuring quality standards, and driving operational excellence. The Production Manager serves as the backbone of our manufacturing operations, directly impacting production efficiency, quality, and overall operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Leadership & Team Management
- Direct and oversee all production activities, including machining, fabrication, and assembly operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors and production personnel
- Establish performance metrics and hold team members accountable for meeting targets
- Implement effective strategies for employee retention, development, and succession planning
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Operational Excellence
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer commitments and maximize efficiency
- Monitor production metrics and take corrective actions to address variances
- Drive implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
- Identify and eliminate production bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources, including equipment, materials, and personnel
- Quality & Compliance
- Maintain strict adherence to AS9100 quality standards and OSHA safety regulations
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure all products meet customer specifications
- Implement and enforce corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes
- Maintain proper documentation for aerospace manufacturing requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and customer requirements
- Financial Performance
- Manage department budgets and control manufacturing costs
- Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities
- Monitor labor productivity and material utilization
- Collaborate with leadership team to establish and achieve company financial goals
- Balance production demands with financial constraints
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Supply Chain departments
- Partner with Program Management to ensure on-time delivery of customer projects
- Facilitate effective communication between departments to resolve issues
- Support new product introduction and manufacturing process development
- Represent Manufacturing in leadership meetings and customer reviews
Qualifications
- Required Experience & Education
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business, or related field
- Minimum 7 years of progressive manufacturing experience in aerospace/defense or related industries
- 5 years of management experience leading production teams in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated success in implementing Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Thorough understanding of CNC machining, fabrication processes, and assembly operations
- Experience with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace manufacturing requirements
- Proven track record of meeting production targets and improving operational efficiency
- Essential Skills & Attributes
- Strong leadership presence with ability to make difficult decisions and drive accountability
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with data-driven decision making
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of organization
- Proficiency with ERP systems (Global Shop Solutions experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
- Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Project Management
- Experience with aerospace/defense contract requirements and compliance
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies and automation
- Background in machining, fabrication, or assembly of precision components
Additional Information
- Citizenship Requirement: MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access
- Work Environment: Manufacturing facility with exposure to typical shop floor conditions
- Physical Requirements: Ability to move throughout the facility, including production floor
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%)
