Summary The Controls & Automation Engineer will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for the Sarasota Distribution Components legacy business, which encompasses Switches, Relays, Circuit Breakers (CBs), and Remote Controlled Circuit Breakers (RCCBs). This role involves supporting existing ATE systems, identifying and executing upgrade opportunities, and implementing innovative automation solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: Assumes responsibility for maintaining and enhancing ATE systems within the Distribution Components legacy business, including Switches, Relays, CBs, and RCCBs. ATE encompasses systems designed to automatically test and evaluate the performance and functionality of electronic devices and components. These systems utilize various forms of logic, such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), coding, or programming, to perform multiple functions with minimal or no human interaction. Responsibilities: Evaluates and supports aged legacy ATE systems using Entivity (Think & Do), LabVIEW, Visual Basic, and PLC ladder logic. Assesses and analyzes legacy equipment, researching and identifying new testing technologies and equipment that align with business requirements. Designs and develops ATE for both replacement equipment and new product introductions, driving innovation and efficiency. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions. Supports other business groups with ATE training, instructions, setups, and troubleshooting. Communicates with ATE users and implements actions based on feedback. Performs troubleshooting and root cause analysis, developing corrective actions to resolve technical issues related to automation and control systems. Writes comprehensive Statements of Work (SOWs) and provides capital justification requests for new systems. Ensures timely purchases and replacement of system components. Develops and maintains documentation for critical equipment and procedures for calibration, maintenance, and general specifications for system functions. Ensures compliance with industry standards and regulations. Follows and applies policies and procedures from the plant manual and SAFRAN Corporate Safety policies on all new equipment projects. Conducts high voltage assessments (220V or 480V) only with ATS and HSE review. Achieves target cost savings and department productivity goals. Ensures regular attendance and willingness to work overtime.
Education and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 2-3 years' experience with ATE systems or automation technologies. Experience with automation software such as Entivity (Think & Do), LabVIEW, PLC ladder logic, and programming. Experience in device communication (power supplies, oscilloscopes, and digital multimeters) using serial, GPIB, and LAN protocols. Experience in designing automated test stands and collaborating with technicians. Hands-on experience with electronics, DAQ, and I/O modules, with a strong technical background in electrical test systems. General knowledge of engineering standards, schematics, bill of materials, PCB design, measurements, closed-loop systems, and validation processes. Strong ability to collect and interpret data for troubleshooting and problem solving. Ability to translate test requirements into test profiles on various equipment, including validation for release to manufacturing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Self-starter with a drive for excellence. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls and Automation, or a related field.
