Aethon Energy Operating LLC (“Aethon”) “Automation Technician” is responsible for supporting, maintaining, updating and troubleshooting SCADA, PLC, electrical, and instrumentation installations and required software systems. Create, modify, and maintain PLC programming per customer requirements for processing plants and compressor packages. Troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, tune, and install instrumentation and electrical devices. Maintain a customer-focused perspective within a team environment. The position will require local travel and on-call responsibilities.
DUTIES & JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the local SCADA representative to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair SCADA and SCADA-related communications systems.
- Maintain PLC programming in existing installations and create new PLC programming for new installations.
- Work with Engineering on PLC logic and parameters.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, tune, and install transmitters and transducers (Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Level).
- Read, understand, and redline wiring diagrams and schematics, including Electrical, Pneumatic, and P&ID.
- Monitor status of area software licensing requirements and ensure licensing agreements are current.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all automation systems.
- Educate other employees on the safe and efficient operation of instrumentation and electrical equipment in gas processing plants, compressor stations, and other oil and gas facilities.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance inspections on electrical and control equipment in gas processing and compressor station facilities per written PM procedures.
- Assist other crafts with job tasks outside of I&E when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with operational personnel and supervision to troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Assist in the installation and check-out of new equipment.
- Comply with applicable Federal and State regulations and all company policies and procedures.
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and flexible to change.
- Health, Safety, Security & Environmental oversight to ensure a safe and environmentally sound operation.
- Daily operations including well, equipment, and facility troubleshooting.
- Management of contractor work.
- Utilize and ensure compliance with all essential operating procedures and practices for the automation & measurement discipline.
- Seek knowledge and encourage new techniques and/or Automation & Measurement equipment.
- Install and maintain ROC (RTU) well control equipment.
- Coordinates the planning and implementation of corrective maintenance work.
- Maintains awareness of performance standards and their relevance to process operations, maintenance, and performance requirements.
- Reports activities that could impact the safe operation of processes and/or systems, including potential process safety and operational optimization issues.
- Effectively follows all qualified unit and company rules, guidelines, and health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) practices and procedures.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Instrumentation / Electrical Systems Technical Degree
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Required Proficiencies:
- Read and understand mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation drawings, diagrams, sketches, or prints
- Understanding of Three Phase motor controls and associated electrical systems
- Calibration and setup of control valves and associated equipment
- Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Level, or other types of transmitters and transducers
Preferred Proficiencies:
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Oil and Gas industry and field operations
- Knowledge of Oil and Gas industry processing plants
- Experience working with SCADA hosts and historians
- Electrical Codes and Standards
General:
- Ability to troubleshoot problems during work hours as well as off hours, as needed
- Flexibility to perform application system updates during non-prime hours
- Strong communication skills for working with and training support, operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel
- Proven ability to work within a distributed team
- Ability to lead problem-solving
- Experience in automating routine tasks by software automation and programming
- Experience participating in R&D trials with sensors, smart technologies, and IoT
- Understanding of, and ability to troubleshoot, end-to-end data flows and technologies used in data transport
- Proven ability to investigate root causes of problems and implement solutions to prevent future occurrences
