The Community Outreach Specialist plays a vital role in building strong connections between the Workforce Development grant and the community. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community organizations, employers, local government agencies, and job seekers to promote workforce programs and services. The Specialist will raise awareness, increase participation, and support the successful implementation of initiatives that address employment gaps and economic development within the region.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties (key tasks)

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote workforce development programs and services to diverse community groups and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, training institutions, local businesses, and government agencies.
  • Represent the organization at job fairs, community events, public meetings, and networking opportunities to increase program visibility and engagement.
  • Conduct presentations and information sessions about workforce services, career pathways, and available training programs.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from community partners and participants to inform program development and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with program managers and service providers to align outreach efforts with program goals and target populations.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials, newsletters, social media content, and promotional campaigns to support outreach efforts.
  • Track outreach activities and prepare regular reports detailing outcomes, engagement metrics, and community impact.
  • Support case management staff with referral processes and follow-up communications with participants.
  • Stay informed on local labor market trends, economic developments, and public policies impacting workforce development.
Educational Qualifications & Functional/Technical Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Human Services, Communications, Sociology, Workforce Development, or a related field.
A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Relevant Experience (Type of experience and minimum number of years)

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Excel

1-3 years of community outreach experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, outreach, or partnership development.
  • Familiarity with workforce development principles, labor market information, and career training resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for events and meetings.
