JOB SUMMARY:
The Affordable Housing Alliance’s mission is to improve the quality of life for all NJ residents by developing and preserving affordable housing, offering services to maintain housing affordability, providing housing education, and helping communities meet their legal and moral housing obligations.
The Community Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in preventing homelessness and transforming lives through comprehensive client support and resource coordination. The AHA serves as Monmouth County’s Community Action Program (CAP), utilizing Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) funding to provide an impact throughout the county. This position leads initial client engagement through intake assessments, guiding individuals through eligibility processes and application requirements for rental assistance, transportation and youth development funds. Working collaboratively with our network of partner agencies, the Coordinator maintains strong referral pathways and open communication channels to ensure clients can seamlessly access the full spectrum of services they need, from housing assistance to vital support programs that promote long-term stability
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
CLIENT SERVICES
- Conducts comprehensive client interviews to determine eligibility for CAP programs
- Guides applicants through application processes, explaining program requirements and procedures
- Processes and maintains accurate client records and files
- Manages client inquiries and responds to concerns with clear communication and empathy
- Ensures compliance with annual assistance limits and program guidelines
- Participates in weekly case reviews to present applications for approval/denial
ADMINISTRATIVE & DATA MANAGEMENT
- Maintains detailed and accurate records using EmpowOR database system
- Processes check requests following supervisor approval
- Coordinates with affiliate agencies to maintain program integrity
- Participates in ongoing training to maintain current knowledge and enhance professional skills
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Represents the AHA at community outreach events to build partnerships and advance mission
- Collaborates with team members and performs additional duties as assigned
- Maintains strong working relationships with partner organizations and community stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate's degree or two years of relevant experience in social services, case management, or related field
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective interviews and maintain client confidentiality
- Proven ability to read, interpret and implement program policies and procedures
- Experience working with individuals facing financial hardship or vulnerable populations
- Proficiency in budget calculations and financial documentation review
- Strong attention to detail with excellent data entry skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with EmpowOR or similar database systems
- Knowledge of community resources and social service programs
- Experience in crisis intervention or client advocacy
