Field Supervisor (EMT)

The Field Supervisor is a position that supervises the operations of the assigned shift, provides direction to crews, and resolve issues that arise during the shift. This includes but is not limited to resolving after hours scheduling Issues due to call outs, reviewing, and resolving documentation issues with crews, addressing employee issues, administering corrective actions, resolving, and reporting Issues with EPCR, responding, and resolving employee and customer Issues, etc.

Primary responsibilities of the Field Supervisors are to assist in the process of providing patient care and to oversee scheduling, assignments, outside agency relations, management functions and tasks as assigned by the Operations Supervisor and Operations Managers, as well as other daily activities essential to the operations. The primary objective of the Operations Supervisors is to provide smooth and effective supervision of the daily assignments and activities of the operation.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Operational Objectives

  • Responsible for staying up to date on and enforcing all current SOP's and protocols.
  • Responsible for leading/coaching employees.
  • Accountable for ensuring employee performance in identified key performance areas.
  • Conduct periodic on-site visits to all health-related facilities as the acting liaison for field operations.
  • Responsible for complying with all local, state, and federal laws (i.e. HIPAA and OSHA).
  • Contributes to providing a supportive and engaged culture for employees.
  • Supervisor will also work as an EMT while performing Supervisor functions.
  • Investigate problems or Inquiries when resolution cannot be made by assigned staff members or when requested to intervene by Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for any employee who wishes to discuss Issues or problems which have not been resolved through the chain of command.
  • Attend all meetings which may require company representation or input.
  • Responds to calls from field personnel and communications center.
  • Ensure that employees all have goals and receive regular feedback on their performance.
  • Performance management of personnel including, reviews, corrective action, mentoring, development plans and performance improvement plans.
  • Identifies and resolves problems promptly; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem-solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Tactfully approaches others; reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.
  • Safety First (crew safety, equipment safety, employee exposure or injury).
  • Respond to service failures and initiate resolution; provide follow-up documentation (incident reports, corrective action).
  • Complete Daily end of shift reports; complete handoff communication with oncoming supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Florida EMT-B certification (Information for out-of-state applicants or to renew click here)
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment.
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of pre-hospital, interfacility, or critical care experience as a EMT
  • Excellent communication and customer service
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and medical agencies to provide the highest level of patient care.
  • Ability to read and interpret all required documents and write required reports and correspondence.

Desired Qualifications

  • Supervisor or Field Training Officer experience
  • Critical Care EMT experience
  • Accident investigation and OSHA training (or within 6 months of promotion)
  • AS Degree in EMS or equivalent experience
  • Current Instructor Certifications (BLS, PALS, PHTLS, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • The EMT is required to sit, stand, walk, climb or balance, step, stoop, kneel; and talk or hear. The EMT is required to pull, lift, grasp, reach, use hands, finger movement, and repetitive motions.
  • Must frequently lift and/or carry a minimum of 140 pounds up to 200 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Requirements will vary; must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Environment:

Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Performs shift work and performs duties frequently in a mobile environment and in confined areas.
