JOB SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the Afghan Support Network’s (ASN) mission to empower Afghan refugees and immigrants in the Portland Metropolitan area, Oregon and Southwest Washington. Reporting to the Development Director, the Volunteer Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of ASN’s volunteer program, manage volunteer engagement, and ensure that volunteers are effectively contributing to community engagement, fundraising, and programmatic success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a consistent and effective volunteer program to support ASN’s mission and fundraising activities.
- Build strong and effective partnerships with volunteers and supporters to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and recognition.
- Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers ensuring alignment with ASN’s programmatic needs.
- Directly supervise volunteer engagement, including onboarding and training volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with ASN policies and applicable laws.
- Organize and coordinate ASN’s annual Volunteer Recognition Event.
- Provide consistent communication with volunteers, sharing updates, collecting feedback, and recognizing their efforts to ensure satisfaction and retention.
- Plan and oversee community engagement events, such as donation drives and educational workshops, ensuring collaboration between ASN staff and volunteers to achieve event goals.
- Convey an image that reflects favorably on ASN and represents the organization’s values and commitment to its mission.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives by leveraging volunteers to enhance organizational capacity and program delivery.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in coordinating with multiple staff leaders over various functional areas.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership/management skills with the ability to motivate volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- English required. Demonstrated fluency in a second language from Afghanistan preferred: Dari and/or Pashto.
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record required
- Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation.
