What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trainer/Lead Broadband Technician position at AFL?
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Talent Development Specialist (Trainer) in the Denver, CO area. This position will transition into a Lead Broadband Technician when not in a classroom/training environment. The trainer, who provides training to incoming Broadband and Drop technicians and team members, must be a subject matter experts (“SME”) of the field installation processes. This requires them to stay up to date on company and client changes to ensure training is current and procedures are streamlined. They are well versed in client provided training modules, facilitator guides, and exercises. Trainer maintains a well-organized and effective training environment and continuously improves training material and employee retention. The Lead Broadband Technician will be assigned a team of Broadband Technicians to train and mentor in addition to conducting on-site Quality Control (QC) management and inspections, customer escalations, monitoring safety standards and filing daily/weekly inspection reports and incident resolution reports.
Pay range: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Coaching: Guide and support Broadband and Drop Technicians to meet high-quality service standards. Offer mentorship and training to foster a culture of trust, professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Installation & Maintenance: Lead and perform fiber/broadband installations, splicing, and troubleshooting, ensuring that all work meets project specifications and deadlines.
- Project Oversight: Assist in overseeing fiber installation, and splicing activities while identifying and resolving any on-site challenges.
- Training & Safety Compliance: Ensure all technicians are adequately trained on installation processes and safety protocols. Enforce adherence to OSHA regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Fleet & Equipment Management: Help maintain and monitor the team’s fleet and equipment. Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and prepared for daily operations.
- Customer Interaction: Address customer concerns and escalations in a timely, professional manner, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project activities and timesheets, ensuring timely submission of documentation in Virtual ITC (VITC) and compliance with client reporting requirements.
- Work Flexibility: Be prepared to work outside of regular hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary. Participate in a 24/7 duty supervisor rotation. Additionally, carry out other tasks as assigned to support operational needs and ensure continuity of services..

Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s Degree in Telecommunications, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- Experience: At least five years of experience in fiber installation and supervision.
- Skills & Knowledge: Strong knowledge of fiber installation, splicing, network infrastructure, and relevant tools. Familiarity with safety standards (OSHA regulations) is required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work in elevated locations.
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold.
- Work near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and elevated locations.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and appropriate work boots.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug/alcohol screening.
