Organization Description: The African Community Education (ACE) Program is a non-profit community organization established to address the educational & social needs of African refugee & immigrant populations in Worcester, MA. Program Description: The After School Program is for students in grades 5-12 and provides homework assistance, academic tutoring, and enrich activities in art, dance, computers, and games as well as special events.
Job Description: The Part-time ASP Facilitator/Support Staff will supervise a homework room assisting students in completion of assignments and providing academic support as needed. Facilitators will also plan and supervise enrich activities in a range of areas.
Duties:
- Provide a positive learning environment and behavior support to students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Assist with set-up, clean-up and ensure all classrooms have necessary supplies.
- Support students during unstructured program times such as arrival, transitions, snack and dismissal.
- Ensure that all students are safe.
- Maintain Positive Behavior Interventions System through modeling behaviors, upholding behavior expectations, and completing PBIS records. Manage student behavioral issues as necessary.
- During homework time: Oversee a classroom of students in a designated room.
- During activity time: Oversee homework continuation or facilitate academic activities based on need.
- Work collaboratively with fellow staff, activity facilitators and volunteers to ensure an effective program and positive work environment.
- Uphold building expectations and ensure classrooms are clean after each session.
- Participate in program orientation and meetings.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with school age youth
- Willingness to develop holistic understanding of student behavior
- Experience working in multicultural setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience and flexibility
- Strong organizational skills
- Computer literacy
- CRP and First aid certification highly desired
Compensation: $19.00/hour.
