Position Overview:

AG Innovation is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our growing team of engineers. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of automated assembly systems, ranging from vision inspection stations to fully integrated robotic automation cells. You will work alongside a team of engineers and technicians, using industry-leading design software to create efficient, reliable, and cost-effective automation solutions that meet the specific requirements of our clients. Your ability to think critically, work collaboratively, and stay current with industry advancements will directly impact the success of our projects and the growth of AG Innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D drawings of custom automation systems, including vision inspection stations, material handling systems, assembly lines, and robotic integration.
  • Detailed Documentation: Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure accurate production and assembly of equipment. These documents must adhere to industry standards and AG Innovation’s internal design protocols.
  • Engineering Analysis and Calculations: Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and durability standards. This includes load calculations, motion analysis, and stress testing.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow engineers, electrical designers, and assembly teams to review designs, solve technical challenges, and improve system functionality. Engage in regular design reviews to ensure alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
  • Innovation and Research: Keep abreast of the latest advancements in automation technologies and industrial trends to ensure AG Innovation remains on the cutting edge of design capabilities. Implement innovative solutions that enhance the functionality, efficiency, and safety of automation systems.
  • Prototype Testing and Evaluation: Oversee the creation and testing of prototypes, ensuring all systems are rigorously evaluated to meet the specifications outlined in the design phase. Address any discrepancies or performance issues before final production.
  • Project Support: Provide ongoing support throughout the assembly, commissioning, and installation phases. This may include troubleshooting issues, assisting with system integration, and making design adjustments as necessary.
  • Flexibility and Availability: Demonstrate a flexible approach to meet project deadlines, including the possibility of working outside regular hours when required to complete projects on time.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 years of hands-on mechanical design experience in an industrial automation environment, with a proven track record of creating complex automated systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) or AutoCAD. Candidates should be skilled in creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Engineering Principles: A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including materials science, mechanical design, motion control, and stress analysis.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze design challenges, troubleshoot issues, and develop innovative solutions that meet functional, cost, and timeline objectives.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, with a focus on producing high-quality work, minimizing errors, and ensuring that all designs are compliant with engineering standards and best practices.
  • Time Management: Superb organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) for project management, reporting, and documentation purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Machine Frame Design: Experience in designing custom machine frames, including knowledge of material selection, machining callouts, and tolerance specifications.
  • Motion Systems: Expertise in designing motion systems using ballscrew actuators, linear actuators, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, and electric drives for automation applications.
  • Automation System Design: Experience with the design and integration of robotic systems, material handling conveyors, tool carriers, and custom machinery for small to large-scale automated assembly lines.
  • Robotic Simulation: Proficiency in robotic simulation software for the design and testing of robotic systems in automation cells.
  • Electrical and Pneumatic Systems: Ability to generate schematics for electrical and pneumatic systems, aiding in the integration of electrical components, sensors, and actuators into automated solutions.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
