Summary of Position:
Grow Pittsburgh is seeking a Farm Worker at Braddock Farms for the 2024 season. This is a part-time seasonal position focused on harvesting and washing produce for our roadside stand in Braddock and other community markets as well as field work for a diversified vegetable farm.
Timeline: This is an 7-month long position starting April 1, 2024, and ending on November 2, 2024.
Hours: 24 hours/ week.
Qualifications, Skills & Requirements:
Site Location: Braddock Farms, located at Braddock Avenue and 10th Street, Braddock, PA 15104
Braddock Farms Details: Approximately one acre in size, Braddock Farms is Grow Pittsburgh's largest food production site. 2024 will be our 17th growing season. We grow vegetables and berries using natural methods. There are four hoop houses and a greenhouse on the farm. In addition to the Farm Manger we have an Assistant Manager, Wash Pack Lead and the Peak Season worker, a Farm Stand coordinator, a workshare program and host volunteer groups. Our primary outlets for our produce are through: our on site Farm Store (open three days a week), another Grow Pittsburgh farm stand at Shiloh Farm, neighborhood markets including: Wilkinsburg and Homewood. The farm hosts educational workshops and tours as well as the Urban Farmers in Training program with local youth. We host fun events every year with our annual Zucchini Festival (July) and Fall Festival (October).
Compensation: $17.50/hour; Other benefits include: paid sick days, mileage reimbursement for work use of vehicle and membership to the Garden Resource Center.

- Harvest and Packing tasks include: harvest, wash produce, packing orders for community markets harvest/wash house upkeep.
- Field Work includes: general field work, cultivation, weeding, transplanting, trellis tomatoes, laying plastic mulch, and laying drip tape.
- The Farm Worker will work directly with volunteers and help give direction to volunteers when needed.
Timeline: This is an 7-month long position starting April 1, 2024, and ending on November 2, 2024.

- Required special events include one Saturday during the season.

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements:
- Some gardening or farming experience.
- Self-motivated, punctual and should enjoy working with people.
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to work for up to 8 hours in all weather conditions
- Detail oriented, ability to work efficiently and independently.
- We are a public facing farm so we expect all staff to be courteous and professional when interacting with the public.
- Candidate must be able to work occasional Saturdays and special events
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
