Job Description
The Yard Driver (Spotter) will be operating yard trucks (hostlers or yard jockeys) to hook/unhook to trailers, position trailers with empty containers for loading and then place filled containers for pickup in the yard. Opportunity to train to operate loading equipment and scales where container weights are taken. Yard Drivers will be required to accurately document container numbers and weights on paperwork and online applications, assist with the unloading process of inbound rail cars and hopper trucks, and work closely with team members to prioritize workflow and meet deadlines.
Additional responsibilities may include installing cardboard bulkheads prior to loading containers, performing general maintenance on equipment, maintaining proper inventories of supplies, and upkeep of facility grounds. Employees will be expected to follow safety policies and procedures at all times.
This is a full-time position with full benefits. EARLY START DAILY by 6:00am. Work Monday through Friday, with occasional work available on weekends.
Job Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Hostler/yard jockey experience a plus.
- Ability to be trained to back yard trucks and trailers into position.
- Knowledge of basic safety practices adherence to safety policies and procedures of the facility.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with drug free workplace policy.
- Show a willingness to cross-train on additional functions at the facility.
- Knowledge of computers and basic data entry skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills to work as part of a small team.
- Strong work ethic, dependable for early start time, able to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment, and consistent attendance.
- Must be able to physically climb up and down transloading equipment and ladders safely.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, and maintain balance throughout the day.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Ability to carry fifty (50) pounds.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour with relative experience
