About The Position
The Education Outreach Specialist will work with all students on their caseload, but primarily with academically at-risk students. The specialist will serve as a tutor for students and collaborate with school faculty/staff as a community/school liaison for Agape families. The specialist will create and implement strategies to promote literacy, overall academic success, student retention, and parental involvement. Approximately, half of the workday will be spent in a school setting, and half of the workday will be spent at the Agape Center and/or related satellite locations where the after-school programs are held.
Duties And Responsibilities

The specialist will create and implement strategies to promote literacy, overall academic success, student retention, and parental involvement. Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as the liaison for Agape families in their student academic needs.
- Advocates for students performing below grade level to receive aid or testing.
- Assists with the design and implementation of programs to increase community involvement.
- Assists with literacy initiatives and any academic-based programs supporting Middle School students.
- Works closely with the SST/Special Ed. teacher or staff designee at the school when appropriate.
- Serves on the Sutton Middle School “Care Team” alongside designated school representatives.
- Offers tutoring and/or test preparation sessions for designated students.
- Work closely with APS teachers and administration at the school to which you are assigned to facilitate classroom instruction.
- Promotes reading and math literacy.
- Fosters relationships with parents and serves as a direct contact for anything concerning their student(s).
- Facilitates pull-out or push-in tutoring sessions with students to provide a personalized and relaxed instructional experience.
- Supports students in the school setting and in the after-school program with language arts, math, science, social science, and all related homework assignments.
- Serves as an instructor for the after-school program to assist students with homework.
- Supports Agape staff with up-to-date info per the assigned caseload of students and academic strategy during program.
- Attends PTSA meetings, parent/teacher conferences, and other related school activities to encourage and support parental involvement as well as to ensure student progress.
- Tracks and reports data on student academic/behavioral growth.
- Assists teachers with instructional modifications in their classrooms.
- Assists parents with navigating any school-related questions or challenges.
- Promotes cultural competency at the school and at the Center.
- Supports Deputy Director of Family Engagement and Outreach with referrals, connecting to school social worker, etc.
- Assist Deputy Director of Family Engagement and Outreach with the necessary home visits as required.
- Serves as a point of contact for tutors supporting in the after-school program.
- Build strong relationships with students and families; develop methods to communicate regularly with parent/guardian (notes, newsletter, email, text, etc.)
- Communicate students’ needs to after-school staff (directors, counselors, etc) daily and strategize ways to support the afterschool classroom.
- Mentor and counsel students individually or in small groups on social emotional aspects
- Maintain database of students updated with necessary sensitive information and support budget goals for afterschool, CJS, Field trips, etc. (Blackbaud, Remind, Excel, etc)
- Maintain open communication with student’s parents on case management with follow-up and/or academic/school progress.
- Manage administrative tasks such as recording of quarterly report card grades and other student achievements, and other documentation as required for programming assessment.
- Direct an eight-week summer program supporting academics, social emotional learning enrichment activities, and field trips for Middle School students.
- Develop an eight-week curriculum focused on English language arts, math, science, and arts.
- Implement new strategies to promote summer learning for campers.
- Support and manage partnerships with volunteer coordinator and program director(s).
- Direct all logistics of camp and facilitate classroom lessons as well as supervise and manage a team of interns, program staff, volunteers and students.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications.
- At least 3 years of experience in youth development.
- Demonstrated experience working with underserved students and families.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive, poised, professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Must be a team player, proactive and detail oriented.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Teaching experience or experience in school systems.
- ESOL endorsement/certification preferred.
