Job Title: LANDSCAPE DESIGNER/ESTIMATOR
The employee’s key job duties are:
- Conducts preliminary studies of the site and assesses its potential to meet the client’s specifications.
- Accurately prepares company bids and detailed plans/working drawings (as required) in a timely and effective manner. Meets deadlines of requesting party.
- Presents proposals to clients, dealing with inquiries and negotiating any changes to the final design.
- Writes up contracts, creates job files, coordinates utility locates, orders and determines placement of plant material on jobsite, secures down-payments, monitors project through to the end to ensure customer satisfaction and final payment.
- Prospects for new business, developing relationships with general contractors, builders, new home buyers, and other potential new clients.
- Meets or exceeds established sales goals, if assigned.
The employee is expected to:
1. Communicate well with both clients and employees of the Company.
2. Use creativity and the beauty of nature to create harmonious, aesthetically pleasing, and functional outdoor living spaces.
3. Prepare and present proposals in complete and professional manner, according to Company standards.
4. Work with clients to create the best value for their budget, matching their wishes with knowledge of what will work best.
5. Meet or exceed deadlines of clients, preventing unnecessary time delays between initial meeting and first draft of plan and/or estimate.
6. Maintain records and tracking of all proposals in progress and timely follows-up to maximize sales opportunities. Aggressively (without being pushy) pursue all proposals in progress.
7. Coordinate pre-construction site meetings with client and landscape manager/foreman.
8. Monitor project throughout construction phase, communicating with clients to ensure satisfaction and with the landscaping crew as needed. Work to find immediate and mutually-acceptable resolutions to problems that occur.
9. Conduct a formal walk-through with clients, prepare a punch-out list, ensure completion of punch-out list in a timely manner, and communicate with client again to assure a sense of trust between the client and Company.
10. Analyze completed projects for estimating accuracy. Make adjustments as needed to ensure profitability goals are met as often as possible.
11. Represent Company at various events, organizations, and associations for the purpose of developing relationships that lead to new business. Maintain positive relations with other companies in the industry and related industries.
12. Actively seek out and identify opportunities for new business, customers, and market growth.
13. Design creative and professional marketing materials which enhance public image and brand of the Company and are submitted in a timely manner by deadlines or established goals.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture/design, three years’ experience as a landscape designer/estimator, or any combination of the two
Seasonality
Due to the seasonal nature of the Landscape Industry in Flagstaff, the hours required for employment will vary throughout the year. Although work load may increase or decrease seasonally it is anticipated that this person will work and average of 20 hours per week from January 1st through the end of
February, and 40 hours per week from March 1st through November 30th. Work hours will reduce to 20 hours a week for the month of December. It is possible to have a part-time job during the winter months or to plow/shovel snow for the Company to obtain more earning potential.
Salary
Competitive salary, based on combined education and experience. Starts at $50,000 a year as a minimum.
