Job Description
This position is responsible for spearheading research, application development, and technical support to the creation of material solutions and competitive advantages of AGC Chemicals Americas' material technologies and product lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership for the research, application, and product development, and technical service activities required to support the business strategies, working closely with the Commercial and Strategy divisions.
- Executes technical strategic planning to support the Performance Chemicals Group's product lines and contributes to the innovation strategy of the Performance Chemicals Group on a global scale.
- Drives new product development and identifies higher value-added opportunities for products.
- Works closely with business unit and division leadership to identify new markets where AGC material technology could be applied.
- Learns and develops a technical team with requisite technical skills and knowledge to properly support the various business units.
- Provides ongoing training and developmental experiences for the technical staff and regular technical updates for the sales force and commercial team to ensure continuous improvement of their overall capabilities.
- Manages a team that has direct contact and interfaces with customers and assigned company accounts.
- Establishes and manages a budget for the technology group, which includes capital expenditures, equipment maintenance programs, and cost center budgets.
- Actively supports global technical and commercial team initiatives and effectively communicates with counterparts at other global locations.
- Manages efforts of providing technical assistance to help resolve customer complaints, as needed. Maintains involvement in industry associations to elevate the profile of AGC Chemicals and AGCCA.
- Develops and supports business unit strategy and important projects with key/strategic customers, especially through strong relationships with primary and influential stakeholders.
- Provides oversight responsibility for the content of technical information and contributes to market presentations shared externally with customers and vendors to ensure proper protection of proprietary intellectual property.
- Seeks out and coordinates activities to further develop synergy with other Performance Chemicals' product lines.
- Domestic and international travel up to 10%.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or polymer science. A graduate degree is preferred, whether in the sciences or in business.
- Ten (10) years' experience in the chemical or polymer industry; global experience is a plus.
- Experience in a leadership role responsible for driving technical innovation and business success. Experience with managing and protecting intellectual property is preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team building skills, and a proven track record of leading teams to technical and/or business success.
- Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ERP systems; and electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Familiarity with identifying technical trends, market development, and production activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access office machinery, accomplish tasks, or travel from one worksite to another.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
