Summary and Objectives
The Paralegal will support a team of lawyers in a vibrant, busy, and complex environment, assisting with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in the discovery and litigation process, including the day-to-day case management, preparing and monitoring calendar deadlines, and assisting with all aspects of pre-trial and trial preparation.
The right candidate will be professional and courteous with a positive can-do attitude, proactive self- starters with demonstrated experience managing multiple ongoing complex cases, and detail oriented with strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills.
Job Functions
- Performs trial preparation and provides trial support.
- Assists with fact research and deposition preparation.
- Proofreads and cite checks documents.
- Assists with court filings.
- Monitors and maintains multiple document repositories.
- Mentors and trains the litigation support clerks.
- Performs all aspects of discovery including responding to e-discovery responses and propounding discovery.
- Other tasks as needed and as assigned by supervisors, attorneys, or partners.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience working in a complex civil litigation practice (preferably, but not required, experience in a trial boutique law firm representing high-profile clients).
- Bachelor’s degree with signed declaration or paralegal certificate.
- Experience preparing for and attending trials/arbitrations/hearings.
- Experience coordinating trial/arbitration logistics, including negotiating for war room spaces, and coordinating with vendors.
- Experience utilizing applicable litigation support software (e.g. Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, Pacer, Case Notebook).
- Experience using e-discovery review platforms, particularly Relativity.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and all Microsoft Office applications.
- Able to travel to, and provide support at, off-site trials and arbitrations.
- Additional hours (including overtime) will be required on occasion.
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude and calm demeaner.
- Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills. Must effectively prioritize work/projects and execute tasks in a high- pressure environment. Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and accommodate rush requests.
- Motivated, self-directed individual with ability to anticipate and resolve issues and work with little to no supervision.
- Knowledge of state and federal court rules.
