Role Overview
As a Data Governance Specialist , you will be responsible for defining and implementing data governance frameworks , ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with regulatory standards. You will work closely with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Compliance Teams to establish policies and processes that protect and optimize data assets .
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices .
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other data privacy regulations .
- Define and maintain data classification, metadata management, and data lineage tracking .
- Implement data security and access control measures in cloud and on-prem environments.
- Collaborate with engineering and business teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency .
- Monitor and maintain data quality metrics , using automated validation and anomaly detection.
- Work with Data Engineers to implement data cataloging and master data management (MDM) solutions.
- Drive data stewardship programs across the organization to promote a data-driven culture.
- Provide training and awareness on data governance policies and best practices.
- Evaluate and implement data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Talend.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data privacy, and compliance .
Experience with data quality management and master data management (MDM) .
Hands-on experience with data governance tools (Collibra, Talend, Informatica, Alation).
Knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, and cataloging techniques .
Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, and cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) .
Experience in data security, access control, and risk management .
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in AI / ML data governance and ethical AI practices.
Certifications in Data Governance, Data Privacy, or Information Security (e.g., DCAM, CDMP, CIPP) .
Experience with automated data validation, anomaly detection, and compliance monitoring .
Knowledge of data lakehouse architectures and cloud-based data governance models .
Familiarity with data ethics, responsible AI, and fair data practices .
