Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller plays a pivotal role in supporting the Controller by leading and enhancing all functions of the Accounting / Finance department. This position not only involves managing and mentoring the accounting staff but also emphasizes the integration of innovative financial technologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency. The Assistant Controller is responsible for the meticulous review of supporting schedules and detailed records for AgriSompo North America and American Agri-Business Insurance Company, ensuring accurate accounting treatment of company activities in accordance with IFRS and statutory requirements. A key aspect of this role is to drive technological advancements and data-driven decision-making within the department, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptation to emerging financial tools and practices.

Job Responsibilities
- Provide strategic support and assistance to the Controller in leading and innovating all functions of the Accounting / Finance department, with a strong emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Manage and direct accounting staff; cultivate a culture of continuous learning and technological proficiency by providing timely feedback, training, and development opportunities. Set ambitious goals that encourage innovation, collaboration, and maintain strong employee relationships.
- Oversee monthly and quarterly general ledger activities, ensuring a timely, accurate, and technologically optimized financial close process, while continuously seeking opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Review reconciliations of cash and other balance sheet accounts, utilizing analytics tools and dashboards to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and real-time financial insights.
- Conduct thorough reviews of financial statements and subsidiary ledgers, employing sophisticated business intelligence tools to enhance data-driven decision-making and strategic financial planning.
- Analyze detailed activity for correct accounting treatment, integrating AI and machine learning tools, where feasible, to improve accuracy, compliance, and predictive financial analysis.
- Research applicable accounting guidance to determine appropriate accounting treatment, proactively staying abreast of emerging financial technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Perform comprehensive analyses on financial information, utilizing and establishing necessary analytics to substantiate the quality and appropriateness of results, while providing actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, collaborating closely with IT to integrate robust technological solutions that enhance control measures, cybersecurity, and data integrity.
- Identify and implement process changes that improve processing speed, accuracy, and scalability, requiring a blend of accounting knowledge, IT collaboration, and a forward-thinking approach to technology adoption.
Perform other duties as directed, with a proactive and innovative approach to embracing and implementing technological advancements within the department, fostering a culture of agility and continuous improvement
Position Requirements
Education
Required - Accounting or Finance Bachelor's degree required or equivalent industry experience
Experience
Preferred - CPA
Preferred - 5 years of public accounting experience preferred.
Preferred - 10 years relevant work experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
