What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machining Engineer I position at Ahresty Wilmington Corporation?
Scope of Responsibilities: The ME Department supports the Ahresty 10 year vision, “Work to go beyond our customer’s expectations, brighten our planets future with our lightweight technology, ensure customer satisfaction with Ahresty, and develop pioneering technology through continuous research.” We help achieve progress toward this goal through process design, production support, reject reduction, cost reduction, and process improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, layout, and implementation of new manufacturing operations in machining and assembly process.
- Work independently in the analysis and modification of current manufacturing machining and assembly operations including production equipment relocations.
- Conduct time and motion studies to determine the optimal time requirements for each station in a production operation.
- Performs reject rate improvements in accordance with annual plan assignments.
- Recommends modification of cutting tools for design improvements using tool trials.
- Prepares customer claim reports, countermeasures, and supporting documentation.
- Assists with programming of production equipment commonly machining centers.
- Will be required to modify positions of robotics (Fanuc, ABB, lAl).
- Prepares operational standards for assigned manufacturing operations.
- Participates in the development and implementation of improvement plans.
- Performs adjustments on production equipment, referencing CMM data.
- Daily follow up on open items reported at beginning of shift, reporting of closure of items.
- Support of production leadership with technical issues (MC Adjustments, issues at tool change, etc.)
- May be required to give presentations, not a frequent requirement.
- Will be required to interface with our customers, vendors, and suppliers serve as a representative of Ahresty.
- Performs other process engineering related functions as assigned.
Improvement Activities:
- Applies root cause analysis tools when analyzing problems within the ME department and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements.
- May participate in a Quality Circle improvement team when possible.
- Performs other related improvement functions as assigned.
Education/Experience/Training/ (minimum required):
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Process Engineering or related field, or, no less than 7 years of progressively more responsible manufacturing experience in machining, assembly, or related operations 3 years of which must be in process engineering technical services.
- Equivalent Associates degree in Engineering technology or related field, with 5 years of experience in Manufacturing support.
- Must have good computer skills in developing reports using basic spreadsheets and graphs as well as word processing.
- Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking is a must for this position.
