Title:
Shipping Coordinator - Reports directly to the Shipping Manager; the backup for this position is the Shipping Division Leader.
Position Summary:
Directs the routine and improvement activities of the Shipping Department to meet the requirements of our production departments as it pertains to packaging. Discusses production needs with production department leadership and then provides recommendations on implementation and/or Work Instructions to complete requirements. Works with Shipping and Material Services leadership to manage the flow of dunnage and FG to and from the warehouses. Responsible to maintain appropriate level of packaging within the facility to maintain production. Responsible for inventory levels at the warehouse and the accuracy thereof. Coordinates with all other departments to ensure necessary support to meet company objectives.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Responsible for assuring the packaging requirements are met for each customer including work instructions. Communicates and follows up with customers regarding packaging. Assures safe practices regarding forklift usage and product handling. Ensures all product and material to and from the warehouse are inventoried and documented on the log sheet. Assures finished parts storage locations are in good condition. Works with Scheduling/Material Services to assure that the appropriate amount of packaging is readily available for production needs. Assures good housekeeping and organization of the entire warehouse and the condition of finished goods. Responsible for inventory levels at the warehouse and the accuracy thereof.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Daily management:
- Evaluates daily shipping and production schedules and inventory levels to determine necessary changes to packaging.
- Prioritizes daily activities and oversees the implementation of those activities, including directions given to Shipping and Material Services leaders as it pertains to packaging and movement to and from the warehouse.
- Works with packaging supplier base to promote cost savings activities.
- Participates in daily, monthly, and other scheduled meetings.
- Assures compliance with all company safety policies and practices including forklift program, confined space, personal protective gear, etc.
- Coordinates the relocation of parts to be segregated at the warehouse, for not (or suspected of not) meeting customer part’s quality requirements.
- Performs other activities related to the Shipping department as assigned by the Manager.
- Performance monitoring of customer service parts.
Improvement activities:
- Provides monthly and quarterly Innovation Plan reports.
- Develops and manages cost saving program for packaging.
- Encourages the development of OTI Teams (Ownership Through Involvement) within the department as well as supporting cross-functional team activities as needed.
Education/Experience/Training (minimum required):
Warehousing/Logistics – Ability to manage with little to no supervision
Process Flow – Good understanding of Lean Techniques
Packaging – Development and Inventory Control
Packaging Standards – Development and Maintenance
Computer Experience – MS Office
Self-Motivated – Ability to work alone and meet targets
Results Oriented – Ability to identify issues and address
Ability to Work Overtime on Short Notice
