Trauma Registrar - FT

JOB SUMMARY: The trauma Registrar is responsible for data entry completion, data analysis and data validity of the Trauma Registry. This includes abstraction of data from the medical record, entry of data into the registry, checking validity of data collection and data entry and preparation of necessary statistical reports on a regular basis. The Trauma Registrar also assists the Trauma Nurse Coordinator with identification of performance trends and the subsequent QI follow-up documentation.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Minimum of one year of clerical experience required with current skills in data entry, ICD-9 coding, advanced medical terminology knowledge and data abstraction from various sources.
3. Must have computer experience with current skills for Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
4. Previous experience in quality improvement activities preferred.
5. Previous experience in database management preferred.
6. Must complete Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine course within six months of employment.
7. Must complete American Trauma Society Trauma Registrar course within six months of employment.
8. Must maintain four hours of registry specific continuing education per year.
9. May require local, regional and state travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Collects concurrent data from medical records based on criteria for inclusion into Trauma Registry.
2. Collaborates with Medical Records, EMS Agencies and Medical Examiner’s Office to complete data collection for entry into the Trauma Registry.
3. Works with the above listed resources to obtain missing data.
4. Ensures completion of data entry into Trauma Registry prior to monthly reports.
5. Ensures financial data entered into Registry prior to report download to Texas Trauma Registry.
6. Assists the Trauma Nurse Coordinator with the Trauma Performance Improvement Program by auditing quality of clinical trauma care, identifying performance trends and performing the necessary QI follow-up and documentation.
7. Makes specific recommendations to improve the quality trauma care (i.e. education, policy formation, etc).
8. Runs routine statistical and clinical reports as scheduled in the Trauma Performance Improvement Program.
9. Maintains current knowledge and skills related to trauma care, data management and analysis, and Quality Improvement issues by reading periodicals and attending appropriate continuing education programs.
10. Participates in designated internal and external meetings related to trauma issues and quality improvement.
11. Assists the Trauma Program Coordinator with other activities related to the achievement and maintenance of Trauma Center verification and designation through the Department State Health Services of Texas.
12. Maintain regular attendance.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned.
