Through advocacy, direct services, and strategic partnerships, AFC works to improve health outcomes and promote housing stability across Illinois.
As Accounting Coordinator, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, and managing accounts payable to support AFC’s mission. You will work closely with vendors, internal teams, and the finance department to ensure efficient financial operations, proactively resolving discrepancies and streamlining processes. Your attention to detail, ability to work independently, and strong data management skills will help maintain the integrity of AFC’s financial systems.
This is an hourly position with a minimum annual salary of $50,000.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Financial Processing
- Review, verify, and process invoices and check requests independently
- Sort, code, and enter invoices into the system with accuracy
- Reconcile processed transactions, identifying and resolving discrepancies before escalating issues
- Prepare and execute check runs
- Allocate prepaid expenses and manage monthly A/P allocations
- Upload payment files to the online banking system
- Clear checks for AFC’s main bank account
Problem-Solving & Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and suggest process improvements for A/P workflows
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies independently before bringing them to leadership
- Maintain organized financial records through proper scanning, filing, and documentation
Vendor & Internal Communications
- Respond promptly to vendor and staff inquiries, ensuring clear and professional communication
- Work closely with AFC’s finance team to streamline accounts payable operations
Agency & Team Support
- Assist with AFC-wide events, including the Annual Meeting, AIDS Run & Walk, and World of Chocolate
- Provide financial and administrative support to other AFC departments as needed
- Take initiative in supporting department goals with minimal supervision

Experience & Education
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2 years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and general accounting procedures
- Proficiency in Excel and data entry

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Hybrid schedule – In-office 3 days per week (subject to change based on organizational needs)
- General office environment, with tasks requiring extended periods at a computer or workstation
- May involve light lifting (up to 25 lbs.) for financial records or office materials
