General Description:
Reporting to the Director of Community Health, the position fulfills testing responsibilities for the HIV/STD prevention program. This position collaborates with the public, other prevention staff, administration, external stakeholders and others. Candidate will have demonstrated experience with diverse populations, including the LGBTQ community, and an understanding of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and able to work in an interactive public health environment, including work in a public health environment utilizing a variety of databases.
Prevention Program Responsibilities:
Works as part of a team.
Conducts recruitment efforts for HIV/STI testing among men who have sex with men (MSM), African-American/Black women, and transgender individuals residing in Parker, Tarrant, Johnson, Erath, Hood, Wise, Palo Pinto and Somervell counties.
Performs HIV/syphilis/STI tests by rapid and traditional methods, such as blood draws, using the Foundations of Testing and Navigation (FTN) protocol.
Maintains HIV/syphilis/STI testing client and other program-related files.
Follows agency and program procedures and policies, including safety regulations and guidelines.
Consults with Tarrant County Public Health on specimen transport issues and regarding follow-up services, as needed.
Assists with quality assurance activities for the testing program.
Trains on Foundations of Testing and Navigation and other related courses as required.
Assists coordinating HIV/syphilis/STI testing activities.
Performs initial and follow-up sessions, as needed, per FTN guidelines for persons diagnosed with HIV.
Assists in coordinating outreaches, including recruiting and utilizing volunteers, at venues where the priority population congregate (e.g., bars, parks, organization meetings, etc.) in order to recruit the priority population for HIV/syphilis/STD screenings.
Assembles, prepares, and delivers test specimens, as needed.
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with community businesses and other organizations and agencies.
Enters required testing data accurately and in a timely manner.
Assists in implementing community assessments for FTN.
Drives mobile testing unit (MTU) for community testing activities.
Completes reporting and other administrative duties.
Ensures timely reporting of program process objectives.
Ensures program goals and objectives are being met.
Attends Community Health, agency, and other meetings, as required.
Attends local, statewide, and other trainings and conferences, as available.
Completes time cards accurately and promptly.
Works cooperatively with program volunteers.
Monitors program medical supply stock, ordering and maintenance, including biohazard waste disposal service.
Performs duties in conjunction with new initiatives and programs, as needed.
Participates in condom distribution activities.
Ensures HIV-positive clients enter medical care via linkage to care activities.
Makes appropriate referrals to in-house and off-site resources.
Maintain valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance or similar.
Fulfills all other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent. Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated multi-cultural competency; experience working with MS Office, database and other software; and organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
This position must work cooperatively with other staff, patients, and providers.
Knowledge of HIV/STD issues, with the ability to adhere to confidentiality and other security guidelines
and safety standards.
Maintain valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance or similar.
Other Duties: Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor/director.
